Comments about REI MTS Boxer Briefs - Men's:
OK, there is a lot of confusion with these boxers. Let me set the record straight. There seems to have been 3 versions of REI boxer briefs released in the last several years. Generation 1 was awesome, they lasted forever and still are going strong after 7 years of wear. Generation two (which you could have purchased 1/2009 - 6/2010 in my rough estimation from my shopping experience) were horrible. Felt great but would wear holes in a matter of 5-7 washings. Wear them on a long trail and they would fall apart. This is where I turned to Ex-Officio for all my underwear needs. Of course the Ex-Off were fantastic. Then REI released a 3rd generation, after speaking with a manager (she took back by holey underwear, how impressive was that?)I was told that the new 3rd generation REI boxer briefs were made to mimic the Ex-Off brand. I would say they do not, but are a fantastic product. I purchased 6 pairs based on her info, and they have been great. To me they are better fitting and softer than the Ex-Off brand, but they do tend to ride up a little more. Multiple washings and activities and they are still going strong. I do not think they are as durable as the Ex-Off brand, but they seem to be holding up and are for sure a different animal all together than the generation 2 boxer briefs that are getting all the poor reviews on the website. I would think REI would want to clear the air on this item as many are shying away from a great product. Ok, hope this clears it all up.

Comments about REI MTS Boxer Briefs - Men's:
To preface, I've owned many pairs of REI's MTS boxer briefs over the last 8 years or so. Somehow, one of my originals simply won't kick the bucket, and are still in great condition. I've worn them for pretty much any activity; motorcycle, hiking, sailing, free-style walking, etc.
I want to respond to the comments about durability. This is now the third style/material change I've seen since I started buying these. The last style, which I believe to be the worst for durability (several wore out in about a year), seem to be completely phased out. The new ones are cut a bit shorter than the previous styles, which I prefer, and seem to use a new updated MTS material.
I give them 4 stars for now on the assumption that these "look" to be built better, and are very comfortable; more than the ExOffico's IMO. I've always bought size M and I'm a 30 waist, so I feel the sizing has always run a tad small (Sz M says 31-33). Hopefully the new and improved ones will last and last because they are so comfy.

Comments about REI MTS Boxer Briefs - Men's:
Purchased two pair of these last year. After light use (wore once every three weeks), they began to wear out after about six months. In other words, after wearing them about nine times they began to develop holes along the seams and were, essentially, unwearable. Unacceptable for underwear that cost so much. Someone made out on this deal, but it wasn't me.

I really like the REI MTS underwear, but I find that these shorts wear out quite quickly, specifically around the center seam in the seat of the shorts.

Comments about REI MTS Boxer Briefs - Men's:
I was looking for something to replace my old "performance" under garments and saw these on the REI web site. I put them on the list of items to check out at my local store. They really seemed well made and I was happy to see that they were made in America. I know some reviewed them bad but I believe the material was changed or upgraded. I bought 3 as a trial set and I'm very pleased with them so far. I use them for everyday as well as hiking and bike riding, I don't like padded bike shorts. So far they have held up to washings and wear.

Comments about REI MTS Boxer Briefs - Men's:
I wear these mostly for hiking but also for biking and other summer outdoor activities here in MD where the temperature (deg F) and relative humidity (%) are frequently in the upper 80s.
I find the length and fit is great. They've laundered well with no sign of wear. I bought a comparable pair of ExOs, but I'm quite happy with these and have bought more. The price is the only reason they didn't get 5 stars.

I purchased the REI boxer briefs for working out and playing golf on hot days. Then a friend told me they are great for travel. I've taken them on two overseas trips & they were great: less room in the suitcase, wash & dry quickly so needed only 3 pairs for 10 day trip, cooler in hot, humid locations, comfortable while walking all over Tuscany in hot humid conditions. And, they are holding up well after having them for 9 months. Will definitely buy more when these wear out, but for now they are great shape after repeated wearing and washing.

Comments about REI MTS Boxer Briefs - Men's:
I have several pair of boxer briefs that are about a year old. they're great. good fit, good comfort and breathability. This newer, current style with the shorter legs are more like hot pants than anything else. the image on the website does not accurately reflect how short they are. they tend to ride up and bind in the crotch and are noticeably tighter even though I bought the same size. I'd rather not look like some euro-trash, ashton kutcher wannabe. I would just rather have some comfortable underwear. I will be switching to patagonia or ex-officio now that they have changed the style.

Have so far enjoyed the multiple pairs of these, even better the latest badge has made in the USA, made it even more worth the price to me.

Comments about REI MTS Boxer Briefs - Men's:
I've worn these MTS boxer briefs for more than 10 years now and was gravely disappointed to find that REI has changed the style entirely. These are now cut way too short in the leg and as a result, they ride up and cause chafing.
The cut may work for some people, but if you like your underwear longer, these are not for you.
