Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:

Well, I stopped by REI to pick this up on my way to go camping and once at the park continued on to stuff my sleeping bag in it. The first half of my bag went in well enough, but when I gripped the top to stuff it in, it just gave way. The top cinch closure ripped about a third of the way around. I had a previous version of this bag that developed a tear on the top flap. While they have reinforced this area on the current revision, it seems another weakness wasn't fixed.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:

Like the title says, it was an awesome affordable compression sack until it tore. I used it on three trips and it was fine, and on the third one, it gave away. The seam between the thin top cover and the black reinforced part gave away, left a large hole. I liked the sack, and its a pity it tore. But, I can't afford to have the sack rip again when I am outing.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:

I bought this compression sack before a bike tour, as I needed something to put my sleeping bag into. It worked great for the first few days. However, it ripped on the third or fourth time I compressed the sleeping bag in it. The rip was where the black band meets the ripstop nylon at the top, right above the strap. It seems that the sewn seams are not very well reinforced. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this to anybody who would like to compress their gear.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:

This is an OK compression sack, if you're going to use it lightly. I have a couple of these and have used them on a few occasions, never very roughly or for a period of time more that five or so days. While they are lightweight and do their job well (compressing,) they are poorly stitched and have a few tears in them. I would recommend them for someone wanting to use them lightly, but if you are going to be using them for backpacking, or cramming a lot in them, get something more durable.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:

Got the 16L sack to stuff my Black Diamond MESA Tent, footprint and rain fly in. It works great. I pack the poles and stakes elsewhere in my pack to balance the weight. Another great REI buy.

(One minor issue, the top cap is sewn to the cylinder sack body with a small hem. Both cap and cylinder end up getting twisted quite easily. It could even potentially start a tear. I saw this immediately and carefully cut the hem. It now works great. I feel this feature is not really needed).

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:

I got this compression sack to make my Kelty Cosmic sleeping bag fit horizontally into my pack and it works perfectly. It is not waterproof (my bag is synthetic, if I had a down bag I'd have gone with something waterproof) and it's quite heavy compared to some others, but overall it fits my needs at the right price.

            Service and delivery comments:

The size I needed was not on the shelf but as always my local REI associates were more than happy to find it in the back for me and made sure I walked out with exactly what I needed.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:

Just got this today and really don't expect to actually it til late spring.... But I did give it a go as it's intended use (for my sleeping bag). I've got an old North Face windstorm 3d and I basically just wanted to be able to scrunch it up even smaller. I think included sack for it stuffed is like 7x18 and even though I didn't take any measurements in the new compression sack, I can definitely get it considerably smaller.

I will say that the stitching seems like it could be better. It [the stitching] seemed to pull quite a bit when compressing my sleeping bag, but in all fairness I was really cranking down on it to see just how small I could make it. I figure with how amazing I keep hearing rei's return policy is, that if it craps out that they will replace it.

So for initial test run, I give it 5* and if I remember, will report back after real use.
