Comments about Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor:
I bought this to replace a Polar F6, which was fantastic until it broke after four years of hard use. Unfortunately, this Polar product seemed like a step back in time as far as quality goes. The instructions tell you that you must wash the chest strap at least every five uses, in some sort of pouch. My old F6 had a hard plastic chest strap, that beyond being rinsed under cold water and maybe a little hand soap once in a while, never needed frequent washing like this FT7 in order to transmit a good quality signal. Also, it does NOT beep when you push yoursself too hard and you get above whatever training zone you are locked into. That is a major shortcoming for a heart rate monitor, if the thing does not beep when you push it too hard, you overtrain. That negates the whole purpose of a HRM. On the positive side, REI customer service was fantasic both when I bought the FT7 and when I returned the FT7. No complaints about REI on this deal, just POLAR! Polar needs to go back to basics.

Comments about Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor:
This is a good basic HRM that shows HR zones and time displayed. Calories burned is a nice feature. Some displays' text is a tad small but I'm used to seeing it now so not as big an issue. I like that it stores your previous events. The strap is pretty comfortable, too. I'm very happy with the FT7.

Comments about Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor:
I bought this HRM because I wanted something less bulky and quicker to operate than my Garmin 110 GPS HRM, which can take several minutes or more to get satellite reception.
The Polar FT7 is a great size and looks good, very comfortable to wear. Unlike most HRMs, the Polar is small and slim enough to wear as an everyday watch and fits comfortably under a shirt sleeve. The display has good visibility and the light, while not especially bright, is more than adequate in dark conditions. Chest strap is comfortable, though I don't see any real benefit of the "smart fabric sensor" over the conventional plastic type.
The calorie counter seemed to be giving me inflated numbers - stuff like 400 calories burned in a 25-minute run - so I wore the Polar along with my Garmin 110 to compare. They were more than 99% accurate to each other in terms of measured heart rate, which was encouraging. After a 1 hour jog with a 155 average HR, however, the Polar estimated 968 calories while the Garmin estimated 498. (My personal information is identical in both HRMs, for the record.)
I seriously doubt I am burning 1000 calories in a 1-hour, relatively casual jog. I still like the Polar FT7 as a HRM, especially for my daily jog when I'm not as interested in analyzing the HR and GPS data afterward, but I will take the calorie burn estimate with a very large grain of salt. I would caution other people from relying on the Polar as a tool for accurate calorie-counting.

Comments about Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor:
I use the FT7 while working out to P90X or Insanity. I can't wear it on the basketball court during a game because of the watch. I like being able to track my fitness levels and my workouts.

Comments about Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor:
If you're planning on loading your training data onto your computer, choose a different product. I chose my Polar FT7 because the price was decent and I planned to purchase the FlowLink later to load my data on the computer. The entire experience was an exercise in frustration.
I had to return my FT7 after one week because the heart rate monitor stopped working. The second one worked fine. Then I spent an hour trying to load the data on my computer with the FlowLink and it still does not work. The instructions, technical support and users manual on the web site were not helpful. They all referred to a button and menu options that simply did not exist.
I teach computer programming and robotics and I could not get this to work. I recommend purchasing a heart rate monitor that has the computer link built in. It will be worth the extra money.

Comments about Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor:
This heart rate monitor works as advertised, I wish it could transfer data to my computer as my first Polar product could. Other than that I'm satisfied with this product.
