Comments about REI Sahara Shirt - Women's:
I bought this shirt because I volunteer at a well-known national park and needed a beige lightweight shirt. The shirt fits well, washes and dries quickly, is comfortable, and has all sorts of useful features. BUT the fabric pills, big time, and when I accidentally got some (supposedly washable) ink on it, the stains didn't come out. Because I'm in the public eye, I find this unacceptable -- I need to look neat and clean -- so I'm very disappointed in this shirt. With a different fabric that didn't pill and stain as easily, it would be great.

Comments about REI Sahara Shirt - Women's:
I like the Sahara line of shirts because they fit well, allowing for a full bust without pulling on the buttons. The material is cool and comfortable for all weather conditions, and the colors/patterns provide me with a range of options (from that "pop" of color, to more business-like colors/patterns). With the right jewelry and/or scarf, these shirts dress up under a jacket. A quick wash in the bathroom sink and the Sahara dries overnight and doesn't need ironing. I'm waiting for this season's new colors and patterns! BTW, the Begonia is a nice true red with warm undertones, not too flashy, and looks good with khaki, black, brown, navy, stone, or dark green slacks/skirts.

Comments about REI Sahara Shirt - Women's:
I bought this shirt for my wife who immediately loved the color, fit, and comfort. It wasn't until we took a camping trip that we really got to "test" its quality. Although exceptionally comfortable and breathable during some intense hiking and mountain biking, the fabric did not hold up well to a very small day pack with water bladder (max 5 lbs). The fabric lasted about a day where the straps of the pack met the shirt. pilled, frayed, wore down bad. by the end of the week its a train wreck. Overall - great shirt for casual wear and outdoor activities not requiring any significant work.

Comments about REI Sahara Shirt - Women's:
This review has been long in the making. I've taken my Sahara shirt everywhere with me from backpacking around California, to travelling or working in Shanghai, Norway, Mexico, Morocco, and Tunisia. Most recently my Sahara shirt saw me through 124 degree (f) weather, trains with no AC, and several visits to historical mosques in Morocco. If it's killer hot, I wear only a bra under my Sahara and unzip the side zips. In strong sun I roll down my sleeves safe in the knowledge that I'm keeping the sun off. I store my phone in the breast pocket and sundries like a folding hat and hand fan or a local map in the side pockets to keep them handy yet out of the way. Visiting a mosque in Kairouan, Tunisia, the two men I was traveling with were obliged to cover themselves with man skirts. The orderly at the door looked me over in my Sahara shirt and capris and commented, "Madam is decent." Only a few hours from the actual Sahara, my Sahara shirt lived up to its name.
My suggestion is to buy it roomy, so you can stretch your arms out and above comfortably. It'll help to keep the heat off and makes a great cover up in strong sun.
As the evening approaches and temperatures cool, you'll be glad to roll down your sleeves and button up your collar. It does a creditable job of keeping the wind off as well. When traveling, I wash mine in the sink after wearing and it is always dry by morning.

I am a fan of the Sahara shirts and have purchased a number of them over the years. The buttons on the 2012 shirts are just too thick and it takes a long time to squeeze the buttons through the button holes. I will continue to purchase and recommend these shirts. The shirt is a great coverup for protection from the sun--I am very light skinned and thus burn easily.

I have a closet full of these shirts because they are perfect for hot Idaho desert summers. Plenty of sun shade and cool ventilation. I buy the XL due to my large shoulders and arms (swimmer) and I've noticed that the last couple of seasons these shirts now come with a flared waist/hip design. This is wonderful if you have large hips or a generous bottom, but I don't, and they look foolishly like maternity tops on me. Well, as silly as it looks, I love the purple and turquoise colors this year and will tolerate the skirt-looking bottom area. I'm hoping it's just a style fad and REI will return to the old straight-down cut. P.S. The chest pocket is worthless right on the breast--would love to see it lowered to the midrift.

Comments about REI Sahara Shirt - Women's:
I have two of these and I wore them almost daily on a two-week trip through two countries in Africa. The weather varied from warm to hot, dusty & dry, with a couple of humid & sweaty days. This shirt is wonderfully airy, it lets the breeze through and doesn't stick to your skin. I loved the strap and button to keep the sleeves rolled up. The neckline is high enough to cover the stretchy sports bras that I wore throughout the trip. When it got filthy with dust, I washed it in a sink and hung it to dry (travel tip: bring a thin plastic hanger and some clothes pins). It dries quickly. Minor complaint: I constantly wore a small travel bag diagonally across my body, and the fabric pilled a little on left chest and lower right torso, where the strap and bag rubbed.

wore this shirt as a light cover up while hiking at Machu Picchu. Good protection from the sun and not too heavy to wear under my rainjacket.

My wife got this for our 14-day trip down the Pacific Highway and through national parks. She wore it every single day of the trip, including the plane ride out and back. We washed it in the sink each night and it was dry and ready to go the next morning, without exception. This shirt has *lots* of style and looks great with a high performance tee under it. It made the transition from cool morning to warm afternoon each day. She reported that it fit beautifully and was very comfortable for our 5-7 mile hikes each day. I can report that she looked great in it and it is a wonderful blend of functionality and style.

I wore this shirt for 7 days straight in the Olympics on a backpacking trip. It kept the sun and bugs at bay while we were hiking through sub alpine meadows. It dried in 2 hours when I washed it at noon on day 4.
I'm long torso'd and would like to see this shirt in a Tall version. This one reached my pants so i didn't have a belly belt, but another 2 inches would be divine.
