Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I am a field biologist and find that I reach for these shirts often, especially in summer. They are also perfect for travel abroad and make a great shirt for tropical climates. The reviewer that scored this item poorly because of the paucity of pockets needs to wear a fanny pack. This shirt is about lightweight, cool, sun protection, not how much stuff you can carry around. This design has finally met or exceeded the Ex Officio shirts, and comes in quite a bit less expensive. Also, I am a large heavily built man, so it is a relief to have an XXXL option. Most XXL shirts off the rack fit fine, but this style of garment functions better when it is worn loosely. Thank you very much for getting rid of the tags at the collar, nice touch. My only complaint is the sleeve retaining flaps inside the sleeve. These are annoying for me, but I carefully remove them as well as the button. I find that these buttons on the upper sleeve frequently get caught in mist nets which work with I regularly. All-in-all the best field shirt available at a great price. I can pack 4 of these in the space of 2 regular dress shirts. Buy one of each color. You will not be sorry.

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I've always had a problem finding a good, lightweight hiking shirt. I'm 5'8" and 145 lbs, so most shirts are far too large. I ordered this in a small and was pleasantly surprised to find that the Sahara tech shirt fits quite well for someone my size. Generally shirts like this have the added benefit of being an emergency parachute. I am glad to finally fore go the baggy look. It fits well, the vents make it very airy(I live in Georgia so this is essential), the two pockets are large and perfect for cell phone, powerbars, or a few survival essentials.I can use this shirt to go to class, then run to work, then hit the trail. Good job REI, I hope you guys keep making clothes with the athletic cut.

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
This shirt as well as the short sleeve version now have fewer than half the pockets it used to have. The pockets are extremely important to me and have been a selling attribute since the shirt was introduced. I now have zero utility for the Sierra Tech shirts. PLEASE go back to the original design.

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
We use these type of shirts for desert field research in international setting where we have to carry papers, pens, pencils, small tools etc. accessibly, have to wash by hand, and still look professional.
Quick-dry, ventilation and durability are all still good on this model. Brighter colors bake out after a month of sun and dust - tans are most reliable for looking good. I consider these "shells" as comfort depends on what you wear underneath.
The current model is handicapped by inadequate breast pockets. Older model had larger flap pockets with subdivisions. Also, the velcro on the flap and the flap itself are too small - watch the rain of pens, GPS and cell phone falling out whenever you bend over!
Biggest problem is absence of the separate internal zipped passport pocket that was the MAIN SELLING POINT of the old models Where can you keep your passport and vehicle papers? This is important - BRING BACK THE PASSPORT POCKET!
The tiny upper arm pocket is silly. What is it for?

Great shirt for all activity; work, travel, hiking etc... Two small vents under each arm and one that can be opened or closed across the back along with UPF 50 make it a great outdoor shirt for whatever you got going on. The two pockets on the chest and one on the arm are plenty for me.

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
The Sahara line of clothing is not what it used to be. I work full-time in the desert and these new items do not hold up as well as past items. The buttons come off easily, for instance. Also, the craftsmanship is poor. The shirt I received did not have a hole in the sleeve for the wrist button. I don't know if they switched suppliers or manufacturers, but REI needs to go back a couple years and stick with the old way. I want functional clothing, not clothing guided by the need for a new style every three years.

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I just moved to Albuquerque and have taken up hiking as a way to do something besides sit on my butt watching ESPN and playing Call of Duty. I don't know much about Gear or Hiking in the Southwest, I know it's HOT! I went to REI and the guys took their time and explained to me the benefits of this shirt and why it is a good choice for Southwest Hiking.
I've worn this shirt twice in the Sandia Mountains, once on the West Slope (lots of sun), and once on the East Slope (lots of trees). This shirt has served me well in both circumstances, plus it looks good.
I highly recommend this shirt to anyone hiking in the Southwest.

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
This year's model updates the bulky blocky cut of last year's one. The only problem is that they simply made it on a smaller scale, not an athletic fit. Stomach is much better cut, but if you've got upper arm strength or chest muscle, forget about this shirt. Large is too big, and medium was barely able to work...until I washed it in cold water and dried it on the cool setting. It shrank 1.5 inches in the sleeves making it a return to store purchase. Too bad as I loved the shirt other than the weird cut and now shrinking issue.

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I have always loved REI's Sahara collection, but the baggy pants and shirts of previous years left me unhappy with the cut. I have returned the previous years clothing for that reason. It's good to see that REI listens their customers and designed a shirt that doesn't fit like a bedsheet. This shirt fits great if your in good shape.

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
If you do not currently own one of these shirts, get it and you will not be dissapointed.
I wear one 4 days/wk for work and usually on weekends for play.
Great sun protection.
Always dry when I get back to the boat launch.
***If you own one of the earlier versions, you may not be impressed. This one has a bit more of an athletic fit, there is far less pocket space and the button material is different
