The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 34" Inseam:
These pants frustrate me. They have the potential to be very good, but in the end they just disappoint and end up being just one of many very average pants of this type.
No hiking pant should ever have anything other than a well sewn button at the waist. Anything else can scratch, irritate, separate, dig in, or just otherwise be a pain. These pants have a snap with a sharp back plate. No thanks. Good luck repairing that in the field too.
The fact that these pants zip all the way up to the knee is nothing more than unnecessary engineering to pamper overzealous marketing. Sure it works, but it isn't necessary and it's just one more thing to deal with or break. A simple zip that goes 6" or so would more than allow the pant to go over a boot.
Cargo pants, by their name, have pockets. I know of no one who wants to have their pockets all full when walking. Stuff in the pockets rub, jingle, shake, get in the way of strides, etc. Basically - keep it simple. No pockets within pockets and keep pockets to a reasonable side. If something is put in them and the pocket swings, then the pocket is too big.
Integrated nylon belts. Sheesh, what a terrible idea. Handy and lightweight - sure, but uncomfortable and dorky too. They seem to only work for the skinniest of people who apparently don't mind it digging into their hip. Personally, I'd be more inclined to buy a pair without anything but an ample number of belt loops. The actual number of belt loops is critical and often overlooked. It, in fact, is the only thing that distributes weight and fabric evenly when using a belt...yet so many manufacturers offer so few.
Another common thing with convertible pants is the fact that most manufacturers seem to be clueless about sizing specifically in regards to leg width. They are usually gigantic which means they look a little funny and they rub when walking. It also makes the crotch too flappy. "Loose" clothing is great. Sloppy flappy clothing is not.
The material on these pants are solid and my favorite in a very competitive field. The fabric alone is really what brings this pair back to being reasonable.
These pants are well sewn and have every potential to be great - if they just weren't over engineered. To be fair, this is a common flaw with most convertible pants. Knowing this, if you don't mind these flaws, I'd buy the Sahara over, for example, North Face or Columbia. All are made very similar, but the stitching and reinforcement on the Sahara is far better. I think my first choice would be the Mountain Hardwear Mesa.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 34" Inseam:
My husband just got these, so we can't comment on the longevity. Also, this is his first pair of REI pants, so he can't say how it compares with earlier versions. All he can say is it's a very comfortable casual pant, and he really likes the material. The only frustrating thing is with the leg length. My husband typically wears a pant that's 33" or 34" in length (he almost 5'11"), so we ordered these pants in 34". They were WAY too long. He exchanged them for a pair that's 30" which are just about perfect; maybe a TAD bit long still, but not enough to drive back to the store to try a shorter length.
The belt is also not the easiest to use, but we plan to replace it with a different belt.
Some people have complained about the small inner change or cell phone pocket. My husband has a Motorola Razor which fits perfectly in that pocket, so he has no complaints. Regarding the lack of pocket zippers as mentioned by other reviews, he prefers not having zippers, so again, no complaints.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 34" Inseam:
Great pair of pants to wear for your outdoor adventures. I noticed that the 34 inseam is longer than I expected. I am 6'2 180 and the leg is quite long. However it is not as if i would go with the 32" inseam but just keep that in mind. I would highly recommend this pants.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 34" Inseam:
Bought these early this summer and have really enjoyed wearing them to work on casual Fridays and at home without the legs. The zipper flaps on these fold down enough to hide the zips so they look like regular shorts. The come off easy though I have not unzipped the sides. When you put them back on you have to be careful that the flap doesn't get caught in the zipper, first time this happened to me but it wasn't hard to get it unstuck. Now I get it started, then reach around with the other hand and hold the flap up out of the way. Other pants forced me to remove them to get the legs back on. Finally got to do a 10 mile hike in them in August heat and humidity and they were perfect. Better, though I hiked through tons of poison ivy my legs were protected. Mine seem to run a little long or maybe I'm shrinking but that also kept the ticks out. They are light but rugged, and the mud I got on them washed right out, look new again. I did find if you put too much in the pockets they want to slide down. Took away a star for this. Also wish they came with a belt, I robbed a pair of mountain bike shorts. Love these pants, mine are the dark green, plan to add the khaki.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 34" Inseam:
Perfect pant/shorts length (I'm 6'8" tall); bellows pocket work great for carrying wallet, folded lower legs (when wearing as shorts); small "coin" pocket works great as cell phone pocket (flip phone). A top button would be better than snap, but a 'wart' band-aid behind metal snap keeps it from cutting your gut. Am buying two more pair since I trashed (chainsaw chain broke from 24" bar with kick-back and ripped right leg of pants, not a scratch on me; these are tough pants) one of two pairs bought in early summer. Thought went into the design of these convertibles and a little from the end user(s), may help them find that these trousers deserve compliment over complaint.

These pants rock, they wisk away moisture and keep me cool in the mid-day heat..Hiking in the ND is unique enough, i needed a pant that could adapt with the weather, and REI pants havent dissapointed..
Many pockets, and easily converted to shorts while walking, no sitting down needed..not needed but added bonus..love these

Wore these pants on my hiking trip to the Grand Canyon. I like that you can unzip them and turn them into shorts.

Love these shorts...Don't use the bottoms much. I chose these partly because they DIDN'T have a sewn button.....No problem w/ this sharp weapon inside......If it is sharp, great survival weapon...
Anyway, very comfortable. For your reference, I'm 6'4" tall and bought the 34" inseam which is perfect w/ sandals on. Only thing they need is the narrow drawstring on the inside like a lot of nike shorts....Oh, and lose the dumb nylon belts......

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 34" Inseam:
As others have commented, these pants run long. I wear a 36" inseam in denim, but with these pants I wear the 34". They are also Baggy, with a capital B. The convertible zippers are a pain. Given the chance to buy them again, I would get the non-convertible pair. I'd rather just change into shorts than deal with the stupid little zippers.
Otherwise they are fine. I really appreciated having nylon pants on my 3 day rafting trip. Sun protective, warm when wet, and fast drying.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 34" Inseam:
I measured the inseam and the pair I got run 35" not 34" as advertised. As a rest, they hang over the end of my heel when walking. Not so good, esp. when it is wet.
