Comments about Novara Padded Bike Briefs - Men's:
I've no need to go back to bicycling shorts. These are more form fitting in the crotch, where cycling shorts "flare" out, as I think the boxer styles probably do. With gusseted shorts, knickers and pants, these briefs work great. I have three pairs and counting.

Comments about Novara Padded Bike Briefs - Men's:
Using the sizing information available on REI's website, I was able to order a comfortable fitting pair of these online.
The padding was adequate to provide a nice ride for a loaded weekend tour. On the second day I switched to a pair of unpadded briefs and the difference couldn't have been more stark.
Unlike other cycling shorts I have worn, the padding in these didn't need breaking in. They were comfortable from the start.
Be aware that the padding is great for road biking, but for rough surfaces it might still be a bit thin. I might be a bit biased in that department, though, since I'm riding a very unforgiving aluminum framed bike.
I do plan on picking up more of pairs these for longer tours.

Comments about Novara Padded Bike Briefs - Men's:
Padded underwear make bicycle commuting so much more enjoyable! I was excited about a potential Novara solution because my old undies are wearing out.
I prefer undies with a minimal light, flexible, soft chamois. Something to handle the moisture and rubbing of my commute, but mostly feel like normal undies when i'm not riding. Unfortunately the pad in these is closer to "normal" bike shorts: It feels like a full diaper if i wear them off-bike. The size, stiffness, and thickness of the pad made them not suitable for my preference.
My commute is about 12.5 miles with mountain roads and traffic. I usually commute 3 times a week, year round. The undies i use now are modified - they had a gel insert which i pulled out leaving just the terrycloth cover.
As with all Novara products i've used, i found the size to be too generous: Normally a Medium in everything, i had to go down to Small in these.

Comments about Novara Padded Bike Briefs - Men's:
Please disregard the review I wrote last month. Those comments apply to the Novara liners I bought three years ago.
With my REI dividends, I bought the newly designed Novara bike briefs. They are totally different. The padding is stiff and with an oversized, anatomically incorrect width. They rub and chafe at both ends - how else can I describe the redness. They've been worn on two leisurely, 20+ mile trips. Bad results both times.
Once again, I really miss the Andiamo liner briefs.

Comments about Novara Padded Bike Briefs - Men's:
These are great for that spur of the moment ride or even planned outings where you don't want to look like a member of the peleton. So far the longest ride with this product has been a couple of 30 miler's and no problem with comfort after I made an adjustment.
The center crotch padding seems a bit wide, it would be a much better fit for a woman... So with a short amount of effort some scissors and thread, I narrowed it for the perfect fit.
Now I can wear any shorts I want and take my bike on a late morning trek and still ride to friends for that afternoon Bar B Que. Thanks Rei.

Picked these up hoping to use them on a cross country trip. I was just a little put off by a couple of things but I'm going to give them a try for a few miles and see if I change my mind. First of all the padding seems to "fold" in the back at the absolute worst place possible, secondly these are WAY too long/tall for a brief, seems like the waist comes up under my armpits! Save some material and LOWER THE WAIST! II just got back from a 30 mile ride and the briefs were definitely more comfortable than my Brooks saddle alone. Like I said though, jury's still out.

Comments about Novara Padded Bike Briefs - Men's:
What ever happened to Andiamo liners? They are the benchmark which I would compare to other liners.
The Novara liners have insufficient padding and are not very absorbant.
On the plus side, I am as comfortable wearing them off the bike as when I am in the saddle. They are fine for rides less than 20 miles on flat, smooth surface.
The more expensive liners, such as Canari and Pearl Izumi, are too stiff. So, with my REI dividend, I will buy two more pairs of Novara liners.

Comments about Novara Padded Bike Briefs - Men's:
I have a couple pair of the older Andiamo padded briefs, and they work great, but they are getting threadbare due to their age.
Bought these Novara things hoping they would work as well. They don't. The padding is very stiff, and I chafe like crazy in them even using Chamois Butt'r applied liberally.
I took them back for a refund.

Due to the short inseam these chafe the insides my legs. This is a deal breaker for me.

Comments about Novara Padded Bike Briefs - Men's:
I had high hopes for these briefs, but I've disliked them from day one. I felt like I was wearing saggy old grandpa undies as soon as I put them on as the fit was not snug at all. I also found the padding to be quite minimal.
I've found several pairs of Canari bike shorts that are much better and just slightly more expensive.
