Comments about Eton American Red Cross Microlink FR160 Multipurpose Radio:
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE THIS TO CHARGE AN IPHONE !!!! I have a 32GB 3GS that I purchased in February. I purchased the Eton Microlink FR160 for a Cub Scout campout to celebrate the 100 years of scouting. We were camping in a farm field with no access to electricity. When I used it to charge my iPhone, it FRIED IT! I mean no phone, all loss of data, completely black screen. The Apple store tried to do a hard reset and couldn't even get it to turn on. Thank goodness that the phone was still under warranty! Apple gave me a new phone, but I had to reload EVERYTHING! A HUGE time commitment and pain. Eton tech support was willing to replace iPhone, but emphasized to NOT USE this to charge an iPhone! All other features are awesome and weather band works great. I will keep it for that reason only.

Comments about Eton American Red Cross Microlink FR160 Multipurpose Radio:
I initially loved the fact that this product is solar-powered and can be hand-cranked. And the reception is fine. However, I have had two of them in succession, and would not buy another: After a certain amount of hand-cranking, the handle broke off on both sets. I am not a camper, and I must say I gave the little radio heavy use – listened to it most evenings lying in bed for at least six months. I'd say that as long as you don't use it frequently, it's okay. By the way, Eton gave me no hassle about replacing the first radio when it broke down.

Comments about Eton American Red Cross Microlink FR160 Multipurpose Radio:
This radio has excellent reception. It's the only radio that has AM/FM reception in my work place, an all steel-concrete building. A few cranks keeps the radio playing for an hour.
Comments about Eton American Red Cross Microlink FR160 Multipurpose Radio:
Just a quick note. I bought both this and the smaller model charger as travel chargers for my iphone, and neither will charge the phone. I didn't see any phone-killing problem, just no charge added. Very nice unit in hand, cool color and finish but otherwise I couldn't speak to the quality as I returned them both, seeking one specific use. Thanks.

Comments about Eton American Red Cross Microlink FR160 Multipurpose Radio:
Purchased this on the way out on a 4 day trip. Hurricane Earl was on it's way. Needed something that would give weather forecasts. Had no problems with this radio. Picked up NOAA weather with little problem.
Would be nice to have a bit longer antenna to improve reception.
Didn't need to do much cranking when we first used it. The radio worked out of the box.
Hurricane Earl was pushed offshore due to the jet stream. Had piece of mind, knowing what the weather was not going to be a factor, I did not have to worry about loved ones back on the coast while I was out camping.

Comments about Eton American Red Cross Microlink FR160 Multipurpose Radio:
Used this for a 6 days hike in the wilderness of the Pacific Coast in Olympic National Park. We had no access to people for several days and being on the coast with a dependency on the tides and dangers of wet conditions, we needed to tune into what was happening in particular with the weather.
I wish it had been a bit smaller, loved that it has a solar recharge capability. We were able to tune into the weather and tide advisory which was essential for us.

Comments about Eton American Red Cross Microlink FR160 Multipurpose Radio:
I bought this to go in our earthquake kit. I liked that fact that you can charge cellphones by ordering a charging tip from the manufacturer. However, I have been told that there is no tip for the iPhone since the flashlight/radio was manufactured before the iPhone came out.

Comments about Eton American Red Cross Microlink FR160 Multipurpose Radio:
I keep this around in case of earthquakes, and I must say in my limited use so far I have been impressed with the build quality.
I have used one of the larger Eton radios in the past and this packs the same functionality in a much denser form factor.
Comments about Eton American Red Cross Microlink FR160 Multipurpose Radio:
Bought this product about 2 weeks ago. Says it charges cell phones so I thought it would be perfect for backpacking and keeping my iphone going. Tried it out. My iphone showed it was charging for about 5 seconds, then it just went blank. The winding arm suddenly wound very easily, the resistence that I felt while it was charging was gone. Tried to no avail to get the iphone working. Called Eton and they denied any responsibility. I will avoid Eton since they do not stand behind the claims of thier products. Very disappointed.
