Comments about Petzl Tikka XP 2 LED Headlamp:
Like every other reviewer out there, I am blown away by this light. Instead of rehashing their comments though, I'd like to tell you about an experience that has solidified my brand loyalty to Petzl.I had a large gear order come in, and of course it was like Christmas morning in my living room as I went through everything and studied it's operation and weeded through stuff for weight (ok, I was playing with it but whatever; you do the same thing and you know it). I packed everything up in my bag, but must have overlooked this light. I then blithely left for a couple hours to REI to get the little things one always forgets about. Two hours later, I walk in the door to find my shiny new Petzl light in gnawed upon pieces all over the floor. Apparently my dog has illumination needs I was not aware of, and in her efforts to turn it on, and lacking opposable thumbs, she had pretty effectively dismantled a significant portion of my new toy. I was rather amazed at how well the light held up under these less than ideal conditions. The light itself was merily glowing away, despite having been seperated from the headband and having the front bezel and sliding diffuser gnawed to bits. As a side note, for any manufacturers looking for durability testers, I offer my mutt as an independent third party destructive tester. After chastising the mutt rather strongly, I composed a pleading email to Petzl to see if they offer replacement parts, as the light itself was fine, but a few bits and pieces were gnawed to oblivion, [...]. I also didn't want an otherwise good light to fill up a landfill because of a few gnarly bits. Within a few hours, I received a reply that stated that while they normally don't do that sort of thing, they had a used light and would cannibalize it for the parts I requested and mail them out that day, free of charge. This level of customer service, which used to be commonplace, has definitely fallen by the wayside for most companies, but not Petzl. [...] they understand that customers who buy things are the reason they still exist, and accordingly treat them well. It is important that we support companies who share a commitment to their customers, so from now on Petzl will be my first choice when it comes to climbing and lighting gear. Of course, they were pretty much my first choice already based on their excellent products, but now they are firster.

Comments about Petzl Tikka XP 2 LED Headlamp:
Finally, everything I was looking for in a headlamp (almost)! Months ago I was looking for these features that the new xp2 has.. White beam, White diffuse, and night vision in a single unit (without having to take off the headlamp and insert some filter like the previous xp) and I didn't have much luck. Thank goodness Petzl finally stepped it up and did this.. THANK YOU. The beam on the xp2 works great, it worked as good as my 1watt luxeon led hand held flashlight when I shined it in a tree about a 100 feet away and about 60 feet tall. The diffuse also works really well, better than I expected, in comparison to my 4 led TackTikka plus the xp2 had a wider diffuse. The "new style" night vision red led they have added is pretty decent, not as bright as some of the others because they work with filters in conjunction with the main bulb but it's bright enough for what's directly in front of you without bothering others and great for reading. What else was a nice surprise which they didn't add in the description is the headband has an emergency whistle that is high pitched and loud. I also like the plastic covering over the battery compartment on the top, it seems like it would keep out the elements better but the lamp is not watertight as I can see a slight opening on the sides that I can stick a piece of paper through, a small rubber ring around the closure would have been a nice touch for peace of mind, but it's rated at IPX4 so I'm interested to see how it will hold up. The on/off switch is nice too, it's shaped and is the size of a fingertip and I can turn it on/off with my wool gloves on with no problem. All in all it had the features I wanted and they all worked well, I'm very happy with this lamp so far, works well when bbq'ing too.

Comments about Petzl Tikka XP 2 LED Headlamp:
I liked this headlamp so much I purchased a second one as a backup.
The light is more than bright enough for me. The lower output setting was better for some tasks.
The diffuser actually works, and works well. Spreading the light over a wide area.
The red 'night' mode is excellent for checking on something while star gazing or otherwise not blinding yourself at night. In addition the light will 'remember' that you last used night mode and turn on in that mode again. Some head lamps require going though their white modes which makes the red useless.
The un-mentioned whistle is a nice plus for packing your 10 essentials.
The strap is solid and wide and stays firmly in place.
My gripes
- IMO all headlamps should come on in the lowest power setting and adjust UP not the other way around, or this should be settable. This light comes on at full brightness and adjusts down, so you get to blind yourself before getting down to the lower setting.
- The white mode should have a third even dimmer power setting. Even the low setting is much more than you need for some things and bright lights can be disturbing around camp.
All in all I would recommend this headlamp to anyone.

Comments about Petzl Tikka XP 2 LED Headlamp:
For trail runners looking for a light, durable, bright light this is it. I used the Tikka on several mountain runs this summer that went well into the night. No problem, the Tikka was light, bright enough to move quickly over talus and variable terrain, and had a long battery life. Takes AAA batteries; no special batteries that you can't find when you need to.

Comments about Petzl Tikka XP 2 LED Headlamp:
I love this light. I use it for riding a unicycle at night in complete darkness and the beam and the throw are perfect for riding at 8-10 mph. I never feel like I'm out running my light. On a unicycle you are always scanning ahead and back to right in front of your wheel so you know how to shift your weight. This Petzl handles that chore without feeling the need to switch modes or flip the diffuser in place. To me the spread of the light is just right from out far to in close and that's what was hard to find in a headlamp.
For the money this is a great light. Probably better than you need for chores around the house but for hiking/running speeds this light does the job. Low is perfect for walking which means killer battery life.

Comments about Petzl Tikka XP 2 LED Headlamp:
This is the second Petzl lamp I own. The first has been great and held up well but is a little tough to use especially with any gloves on and a bit dim. This lamp is the real deal. I wanted to buy a nice bright light to use while biking and I am quite happy. Also its blinking main beam will really get attention in traffic. It is very bright and I will be bringing it on Kayaking trips. I know it is not water proof but most of my Kayaking is in calm water and I will keep it in a water tight bag unless it is on my head.

Comments about Petzl Tikka XP 2 LED Headlamp:
Went for my first night run with a light...EVER. So although I am not an experienced NIGHT runner I am an avid runner. This light was perfect! Not too heavy, very stable over my knit cap. Good adjustments, lighting pattern and brightness. Others told me I may need a handheld flashlight along with a headlamp so I brought one with me but didn't need it.

Comments about Petzl Tikka XP 2 LED Headlamp:
I use this light as my #2 back up for caving. I use the adapt mount for helmet mount. While it isn't my brightest light or my most durable, it is the most economical. It is also the best on batteries and the lightest. If I were just starting out in caving I would consider just buying three of these and rotate them out oun a adapt mount as back ups. The quality of light is a bit sterile but to get a more natural full spectrum light you will find yourself with a much more expensive light.

I just got this headlamp. Works well. Great improvement since my last lights. Even beam with no shadows or dark spots. I would get another one.

Comments about Petzl Tikka XP 2 LED Headlamp:
I've never had a headlamp before, and that's the only reason I gave this one 4 stars instead of 5. I have nothing to compare it to. I didn't know what to expect for my first headlamp. I imagined that it would want to keep sliding down my forehead, and I almost went with one that had the extra strap that goes over your head just to avoid that possibility. I couldn't be happier with this light though. It doesn't slip at all, it's bright, and it's comfortable. There's no pad or anything between the plastic body of the lamp and your head - there's just the strap. Quite frankly, I don't understand how it doesn't hurt or become irritating, but it doesn't. I could wear this thing all day.
