Comments about The North Face Janey Winter Boots - Women's:
This boot is exactly what I've been looking for. I have thicker calves, and have had trouble finding boots that fit. Well, these are exactly what I've been looking for! The grip is so solid that I feel like I could climb mountains covered in ice and still be ok. The one downfall? A lil expensive. But really, its worth it.

Comments about The North Face Janey Winter Boots - Women's:
When I bought these I thought they were the best boots ever. Very comfortable, warm, dry, great traction at first, cute, easy to get on and off, adjustable, and I could wear them all day without my feet hurting. Traction was excellent at first. But after 2.5 months, the soles are very very worn. Traction is gone. Granted I wore them almost every day, but I still think they should last longer. Thought the "Ice Pick" technology was a good idea, but the little lugs don't seem very durable.

Comments about The North Face Janey Winter Boots - Women's:
I got these last winter, and love them. I have a really narrow ankle, so appreciated the laces up the back that help achieve a custom fit. One warning - tie those knots well, and then use the zips to get in and out. It makes everything sooo much easier. They've also been excellently comfortable and warm, and I'd actually say that they can err on the side of being too warm during transitional periods. I did have to hit them with an additional waterproof coating, but that's about it.
About that "ice pick" technology: These will give you a little extra grab on a slick sidewalk or parking lot, and have saved me a number of times. I walk fast, and you hit a lot of black ice on Chicago sidewalks. However, if it's really truly slippery, you're on your own.
I've had these for one winter, with wear four to five days a week in salt, snow, and slush. They're toasty when waiting for the train or bus, and cold doesn't seep through the soles as it does on some boots. I plan on wearing them again this winter. I think they might have to go to the shoe repairman for a little bit of a clean up and refresh after that, though.
Bottom line, excellent boot for tromping through a cold, snowy, slushy urban winter.

Slightly uncomfortable at the width. I got a few blisters after my first day wearing these. They're great boots if you wear them for a few hours but not for anything more than 5 hours :(

Comments about The North Face Janey Winter Boots - Women's:
I mostly use these boots to get between home and work and at the dog park. I've had them for almost a year, and the traction is already wearing thin. I don't wear them excessively, and after only a couple months of to-and-from work wear, the Ice Pick flowers started falling off.
However, my biggest frustration with these boots is that they are nothing close to waterproof. They did a slightly better job at keeping my feet dry last year, but after taking them out in the first snow this year to go to the dog park and for a walk, I had to change my socks twice (once after each activity) because they were wet and cold! I spent enough on these boots last year that I'm going to try getting them re-waterproofed, but I think that a boot this expensive should last me *at least* a year.
On the up side, I do get compliments on how cute they are, and when it's drier outside, they do a decent enough job of keeping my feet warm.

Comments about The North Face Janey Winter Boots - Women's:
I bought these boots back in July '10...pretty much half a year ago and they're still in great shape and look great. I wear them frequently...about 2-5 times a week. I take them on all my snow trips. I wear them on all rainy days. I haven't slipped yet thanks to their grip. These boots are amazing. I still get compliments on how cute they are and my cousin even bought a pair for herself. And because I love comfort over everything else, I wear these boots because my feet don't hurt at the end of the day...which means I wear them to work too in a tech office and out to the bars in the city. Very very cute and would highly recommend. The only boot that has passed my comfort, fashion, and functionality triad test. Amazing.
Trying to think of cons. I do have a lot of all kinds of footwear and I mean, they're not going to be as classy as stilettos at night or as waterproof as a rubber rain boot, but I really can't emphasize enough how cross-functional these are and how high they rank in each category. Especially for the price even at full price.

I saw these boots in the store and decided to give them a try but held out little hope as I've got calf issues. Wow was I surprised!!! With the combination of the inside zipper and the laces in the back I was able to custom fit these boots to allow for my generous calves and still look cute and stylish. Very comfortable and light weight. Highly recommend to anyone with calf issues. Have them in black - thinking about getting them in brown too. My search for higher winter boots has finally ended. Hallelujah!

Comments about The North Face Janey Winter Boots - Women's:
I would give these boots 10 stars if I could. I originally bought the sorel Helen of Tundra (see my negative review for them) and hated them for the bulkiness and most of all the huge safety hazard they posed indoors on wet tile surfaces (like every chicago museum you go into in the winter when the snow melts off people's boots)...I almost fell flat when holding my toddler!
I returned the sorels for these boots, which I'd really wanted all along because of how fabulous they looked. I have been delighted to find that I haven't had to sacrifice function for form...these amazing boots have both. They are wonderfully warm, and I have terrible circulation and constantly have freezing toes all winter long...no more. They are super easy to get on and off. Don't be put off by the ties. Lace them once and then get them on and off with the zipper on the side. They are light weight enough that when I'm indoors they feel like indoor shoes and when I'm on long day outings in and out of museums and the zoo and such with my kids they are warm outside and lightweight and not overly warm inside. They are also waterproof. I didn't believe it to look at them, but they truly are. I just dug myself out of the huge Chicago blizzard of 2011 and didn't get at all wet in them. And did I mention that they look fabulous? Could not be happier with this purchase!

Comments about The North Face Janey Winter Boots - Women's:
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING BOOTS. I just moved to Colorado after living my entire life in sunny southern Cali, and I needed something to replace my Rainbow flip-flops and open-toed socal footwear as soon as the snow started coming down.
I took these on a trip up to Steamboat for skiing, as well as Breckenridge one weekend where we got 12 inches of fresh powder. I literally was stomping through knee deep powder and slushy, wet, slippery roads. Have had them for 3 months now and they are the best purchase I have ever made from REI. My feet have been so warm and comfortable, and the spiky "ice picks" work very well keeping me from slipping and falling in slushy conditions. I still can't believe I was in snow that covered up the boots entirely, and my feet were still warm and cozy. I didn't even need special socks for the winter because they are so great - I have been wearing lightweight ankle socks!!
The only complaint I have is that they do require a little time to get on and off (I am used to sliding on flip-flops so taking 2 minutes to put on shoes to me seems longer) because you have to lace them in the back of your calf, plus zip them up, but for the comfort, warmth, ease of walking, and waterproofness, I don't think i could have found a better pair of boots.

Comments about The North Face Janey Winter Boots - Women's:
These boots are warm, comfortable and stylish. I have worn them almost everyday since I bought them in both snow and rain. Although they aren't water proof, I haven't had any trouble with them getting wet yet. The laces in the back are weird to tie when you put them on, so instead tie them (and double knot) once when you buy and then you only need to use the zipper in the future. The design details make them look more sophisticated than some other boots, but they are so warm, comfortable and soft that I find myself keeping them on when I get home.
