    Comments about Suunto M-3 Global Pro Compass:

    The M-3G is an awesome compass! The global needle is less sensitive to the base plate being tilted and it spins into location noticeably faster than other compasses, including the M-3DL, because of its double pivot. Hence it will stay more accurate when you are stressed and fumble around and need it to perform.

    The two white rubber pads are great at holding the compass to the map so they do not slip.

    The longer shape of the base plate makes it easier to set the compass over a longer distance on the map. This is a great benefit that overrides the insignificant extra weight relative to a shorter, more square model.

    The M-3G compass house does not have as many cluttering lines as the M-3DL, which makes the M-3G faster to read and set.

    Note that the M-3G will have "M-3G" printed on the base plate; the M-3DL will simply say "M-3" (i.e., the REI picture for the M-3G is that of a M-3DL).
