I use this beanie on a daily commute and it works great to keep the heat in, even on really cold days. It doesn't quite stretch down over my earlobes far enough so either I keep tugging on the hat, wear a face mask that covers my ears, or deal with cold lobes. I haven't used other hats to compare against, but on the other hand I haven't felt I need to purchase another hat.

Comments about Novara Thermal Tech Beanie:

I love this hat. I have used it around home, on long bike tours, trail running, and backpacking. I like it so much that I immediately bought a spare in case they go out of production.

I find that it is great for as cold as it gets here (it is seldom below 0F here). I find that it is pretty adjustable for varying conditions by hiking it up on my head exposing forehead and ears when running, riding, or hiking up a steep grade or whatever and then pulling it back down over the ears and forehead when going downhill or into a cold headwind.

It is very windproof and the band around the bottom allows a good bit of the moisture to be carried off and evaporated without making me too cold.

I find it to be the perfect beanie for conditions from freezing to 0F and probably colder when exercising. It goes with me on any bike tour where freezing temperatures are possible, around town when not worn it lives in my jacket pocket in case the weather gets cold, and I use it on any trail run in freezing weather.

It seemed kind of expensive, but is worth it.
