Comments about Petzl e+LITE Headlamp:
I used this light first in Iraq on one my last deployment to Iraq. I used it a ton and never had a problem with it. The battery life on it was great. The red light had two setting for brightness which was very helpful. Also the lights swivel was easy to move but didn't move unless you wanted it to. My only complaint it that if you want strong, long distance illumination this headlight doesn't have it. Great buy for the buck.

I love this thing! The switch won't accidentally go on in your backpack but you can set it so that it's easy to turn on even when wearing gloves or mittens. The adjustable beam is great and the whole thing is very light. Even has a rugged little carrying case. Flawless design. Tip o' the hat, Petzl!

Comments about Petzl e+LITE Headlamp:
Let me first say that I love this light and its case. It is the highest brightness to weight ratio you will find - bar none. The long lasting brightness in such a light package has been made possible in this hightech package by some great LEDs.
This is great if you are a casual user and don't plan for your equipment to go through any abuse. Please don't use this light in a situation where your life depends on it (without a back up). Like other reviewers, my switch also broke. I used it as a backup light mounted on the side of my helmet and got a little bit of dust and dirt on the exposed switch track, just from operating the switch with my gloved hand. This screwed up the switches ability to slide, even after rinsing in water. So this thing jammed in my first day of using it and I returned it for an exchange. From now on, I will only keep this in its case in my pack for use in emergencies. I would expect this to also have problems if you took it to the beach and got sand on it.
Its case is really cool and comes with a whistle with the Morse code for SOS stamped on it.

Comments about Petzl e+LITE Headlamp:
I purchased this light originally for ultralight backpacking. I had one of these lights for about a year, and ended up returning it back for my money. Firstly, the red slider that is used to adjust the beam is "caught" on the notches with a little spring, which of course flew out. So i was resorted to guessing and fine adjusting the beam to get the light to turn on. Secondly, the light itself rotates and adjusts on a ball joint made of plastic. At first, the ball joint is tight enough to support the light, but the joint slowly wears out and the light wouldnt even stay adjusted. It ended up flipping down into my eyes every 5
minutes. Sorry petzl, but its not the greatest...
If however, you use it in an emergency kit as it was designed for, then it is an excellent light to have around. I am still loyal to petzl and have switched to a huge light that combines halogen and led bulbs. Highly reccomend that light for camping and backpacking!!!

Comments about Petzl e+LITE Headlamp:
I used this headlamp on my 2009 thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail and was very pleased with it. It's not as lightweight as the itty-bitty Photon lights that the hardcore ultralight backpackers use, and it's not as bright as a Tikka, but I think it's a great balance between weight savings and usability. I especially like that you can turn on the red beam without having to cycle through the white beam and interrupt your night vision. The red beam was sufficient for reading a map or finding a snack in the dark, and then I used the white beam in the infrequent occasions when I had to set up or break camp in the dark.

Comments about Petzl e+LITE Headlamp:
The good: Very light, even with a whistle and protective case. Great battery life, given that I probably use it for about 1 hour a night when camping and use it for hours at a time on night hikes. I have tested it at temps as high as 90 degrees F after a day of keeping it in 115 degrees in my backpack, and temps as low as 20 degrees F. The positioning system works well for me, even after getting really dirty.
The bad: When in a sandstorm in the desert, the light switch became fouled. I cleaned it as best I could but the sliding switch was damaged. It survived and never stopped working, but became looser and looser over the ensuing weeks. I replaced it, and have not gotten it seriously dirty since. Also, the switch is difficult to operate while wearing gloves but that goes for every headlamp I own/owned.
NOTE: I have excellent night vision and require very little light. This light does not put out anywhere near the lumens that other lights produce. If you need a bright light that will make you a beacon and allow you to use it as a bicycle headlamp this is NOT the light for you. I would say the bright setting works well to no more than 40-ish feet away, and beyond that you need more light.

Comments about Petzl e+LITE Headlamp:
I bought this headlamp because its weight/price/battery life. I know you might be thinking that the battery life could be better but the truth is that for such a small light, it has a fairly bright output that you can't compare to other headlamps simply because they would fall into a different category: heavy/cheap or bulky. If you need to carry spare batteries it's not a problem since it uses the small flat batteries so you can carry a dozen of them and still make out on the weight and battery life span comparison.
It attaches well to helmets and it's comfortable to do late routes at the local crag.
It's a bit trickier than any other model to operate with gloves on but that's not a con in my opinion, I just take one glove off.
I have other headlamps with stronger beam output for harsh conditions but i don't use them as often as my e-lite.
If you need to get a great versatile headlamp you won't regret getting this little one.

Comments about Petzl e+LITE Headlamp:
This headlamp is really light and packs into it's own case. Yes, battery life is not that good compared to others but for the weight, you can bring enough spare batteries for a month. It's sealed so it can be used in down pour rain. Two strobe modes (white, red) are quite useful while backpacking in a larger group with people of different speed levels.
Bonus: a whistle and SOS instructions for those who don't know the pattern.
It might be difficult to operate with gloves on.

Comments about Petzl e+LITE Headlamp:
Great for emergencies but not you probably don't want to use it as primary headlamp. It is just not bight enough to enjoy the night hike (compared to a solid normal size 3x AAA LED headlamp) and the tilt/swivel mechanism is not built for heavy use. Having said that, you will certainly appreciate it in case of emergency and it is very light, so there is no reason not to take it with you. In fact, for shorter trips, you can leave the spare batteries at home and just take this instead.

Comments about Petzl e+LITE Headlamp:
I really like this little light. It's super light, inexpensive, and has some neat features. The trade off for the weight is that it's a little dim. This works for me, because the people I go with tend to have epic lights, so I just walk behind one of them if we are on the trail and it's dark.
Around camp though, it's just right. Bright enough to let you do what you need to do. Did I mention that it's light? And small.
Very good addition to the kit.
