I love the fit and feel of these, and they keep their shape either hand or machine washed. They dry quickly for wool and don't get stinky like synthetics can. I've had mine for two years. The only problem I've encountered is that they developed holes after about six months, not at stress points. Could have been moth damage, though I have not had any damage in any other wool items stored in the same drawer. I darned the holes, but more developed again, kind of a drag. Luckily they are underwear so the repairs don't show. I'm a little concerned about the durability when they are so expensive. Have not had this problem with the Smartwool midweight zip top, which I also have, bought at the same time.

This is a great product. I can wear them around the house, as a base layer while going about my day, indoors or out. I have also used them for some infrequent snow activities.

They keep you warm, without making you hot if that makes sense. It's almost like they don't keep you warm, but regulate your body temperature instead. I can wear these inside under my other clothes and not feel overheated.

The only problem is their durability. As others have pointed out, they have developed holes in places that aren't wear points. Probably after about six months of intermediate wear. I didn't have the same problem with the top or the socks.

This is a great product, but I find myself wondering if they are worth the money. I have never found a base layer that worked as well as these do, but they are very expensive to not last even six months without holes.

Love this product, but it finally developed multiple tiny holes and runs that I could not keep ahead of mending. I got a LOT of wear out of them before this happened, and will happily buy again. Maybe a larger size would help this??
Excellent ability to manage moisture during intense activity. Super cozy to sleep in without perspiring.

These are the most pleasant bottoms to pull on but I may not buy more. I have three of them, and all have developed holes in various places. These don't seem to be in wear places. I'd wonder about moths but I don't seem to be getting moth holes in my Smartwool tops. These holes show up long before I'd consider the bottoms worn out -- the elastic is fine and the fabric is not threadbare. I don't feel as confident in Smartwool as I once did.

I just bought my third pair to make sure I have them available all the time, all winter. We keep the house cool. I also love to be outside and to wear a variety of not always warm pants. These keep me warm and cozy under regular jeans and cords, in the house and outside. I can wear them under light wool pants and long skirts with boots. I love merino wool. No itch, no odor, and easy to wash.

I love how soft and warm the Smartwool products are. These bottoms are too short, and I am not particularly tall (5'9"). Otherwise I hardly notice I am wearing them, except the warmth they provide. I take part in many cold weather activities, and these are always my first layer. Too bad they are so expensive. I won't be buying any more.

Great baselayer. Only problem is I can't get this in deep purple at REI to match my deep purple Smartwool midweight top. Really wish colors other than just black become available for the 2010-2011 winter season.
