I purchased this product to allow me to carry my ladder on top of my vehicle.
It is solid when mounted and I am very happy with the results.
When installing any rack on top of a vehicle expect to get wind noise.
This was not a major issue for me.
Consider purchasing the six pack of locks as you will have 2 extra keyed alike for your bike mounts, etc.
A little pricey but I feel the quality of the product was worth the extra cost over a cheaper unit.

I had to use the large jaws (3 sets are included) to fit my 2011 Nissan Pathfinder rails. They were almost not big enough, but with some finessing I got them to grab just fine. My first trip was over 2500 miles at highway speeds, and the bars held a 100+ pound Karrite Explorer 18cf carrier. Make sure you preiodically check the grip and tighten allen screw if needed. Overall, worked like a champ!

This is a great product and was easy to install. It does cut down on your gas mileage, and can be loud, but that's the price you pay for carrying your toys around on top of your car. It was much cheaper than the Thule system, and I think it's more aerodynamic and better looking that Thule.

Have been a Yakima owner for 28 years, bought my first set in 19894. These are BY FAR the easiest and most simple set of Yakima towers that I have owned. Out of the box, glance at the instructions, on my car in about 15 - 20 minutes. Fit my 2011 Rav4 like a glove.

Just installed these on our 2009 VW Jetta Sportwagen and it couldn't have been easier. The grip system is very well designed and has an extremely solid grab on the factory rails. Took about 30 minutes total--once you figure out how they work (the instructions are great) it goes very quickly. Make sure you get the distance between the crossbars right for whatever you are going to put on there (I was a little cavalier on this but got lucky). The only other thing I was worried about was the sunroof, but it opens with just enough clearance. Definitely recommend.

I guess I perpetuate the stereotype and do not read instructions until fully stumped putting something together. Make sure to read these for the adjustment of the towers to fit onto rails. After that, everything was common sense. Went together fairly easy.

I have been researching a solution to our space problem! We love our Forester, but the space is limited so we needed to get a cargo box (purchased the Thule Atlantis 1200 xt) to fit our gear. We also needed room on the roof for two bikes. The factory racks didn't allow us the room we needed. So, I purchased the railgrabers with 58" bars. The setup is awesome!!! Railgrabers are amazingly easy to install!

My 2008 Subaru Forester has flush rails that run the length of the roof. The railgraber system came with 3 different sizes of "feet" the hook to the rails. I use the smallest with no problems at all! Took about 30 minutes to dismount the factory crossbars and then install the Yakima system.

If you are hesitating, just buy it!!!

Yakima and all experts say this fits the 2012 Audi Avant Wagon with side rails...it clearly does not. I tried every clip and even considered modifying them. The grabber does not grip the Audi rail tight (you can lift off with a light bump.) It also sits so low that, even when on as tight as you can get it, the Audi's sunroof cannot operate properly without pushing on the crossbars. I had to return these and buy the Audi rack (similar to the new Whisper Bars) and will have to try to retrofit all my racks, boxes, etc. Yakima needs to delete the new Audi Avant Wagons from their fit lists/website.

After playing with this for 2 hours, I think the old Lowrider (the Rail Grab predecessor)was a better product for raised factory racks (not flush rails).

First - let me say these work great to install a cross rail on a factory roof rack for a 2011 Subaru Forester. A lot of complaints came from the size of the included brackets, however, the latest packaging, shipped in June for my label, included three sizes - including medium which is the required size for Foresters. Set up your medium foot at three clicks from the bottom, and set you tighten bracket halfway on each foot. Pop it in at a 45 degree angle from the inside to the outside. Tighten the black screw, loosen the large silver screw, insert the rod after you have both sides on. Adjust to proper position. Tighten the black screw if you had to adjust, then tighten the silver screw to lock in the pole. Took 30 minutes to instal after opening the box, and was done this evening while a tropical storm makes landfall :-)

I just bought them for use with Subaru Forester factory rails. Some reviews mention that they are not compatible but this is not the case anymore. There are 3 types of claws included and the medium claw fits perfectly. If your package has only small or large claws, call Yakima and they should mail you medium at no charge.

Takes maybe 30 minutes to install, less if you already know how this product works. On each tower you need to install a claw and tighten 2 hex bolts. The bolts are then cowered by a plate with SKS lock.
