Chuck the compass - not safe!

Comments about Lifeline Ultralight Survival Kit:

Do not use the compass - it is inaccurate, which could kill you in the outdoors. The needle gets stuck at random locations on the dial. The needle appears to be weighted incorrectly. [*] I threw it away and kept the rest. I mainly wanted a small fishing kit, but the hooks are of a very light gauge. I would have been bettwer off buying individual components. A survival kit should have more robust components. I agree with the other reviewer that [@]make better kits, but they cost more.

        AMK vs. Lifeline

Comments about Lifeline Ultralight Survival Kit:

Having owned the AMK/Doug Ritter kits, I was curious to compare them with the Lifeline offering. I finally had the chance to examine one closely, and here's what I found: The plastic container on the AMK is much thicker than the Lifeline. The compass, and the whistle are much cheaper quality than the AMK. The Lifeline's matches only give you about 20+ chances to light a fire, while the AMK's Sparklite is good for about a thousand. The AMK has great tinder for starting a fire; the Lifeline has none. The inclusion of the emergency blanket is a plus for the Lifeline kit, but it doesn't include a signal mirror, nor a fresnel lense (which can also be used to start a fire). One the whole, I think the price differential for the AMK kit is worth it. The Lifeline kit would be useful, if you replaced the junk with decent quality components, which would put it much closer to the cost of the AMK. I certainly wouldn't trust my life to this kit the way it comes.

Comments about Lifeline Ultralight Survival Kit:

I bought this for my day kayaking trips. I had to use the water proof matches and have never got it to repack properly. But it's lightweight and small packaging work perfect for my uses.

Comments about Lifeline Ultralight Survival Kit:

Most products with this variety would have lower quality for the individual pieces of the kit. in this product, however, the only thing that i have found doesn't work well is the compass. sometimes the needle gets stuck. the waterproof case is nice, and the extra bag in case you can't fit it all back in is great (but not waterproof). the matches can be replaced with a magnesium fire starter, but they work ok.

what i like most is the variety of tools in the size of the bag. all tools are very useful. the one tool that i had a problem with was the compass. The needle gets stuck sometimes, but when you have a kit with a large quantity of tools, a few might not work extremely well. if you are good a packing things up .tight, it packs easily.

Comments about Lifeline Ultralight Survival Kit:

With only this kit you can snare and fish then clean and skin. The blade is not as tough as your knife, but will allways be in this kit.
The foil has too many uses to list. but folding into a cup to boil is a good start.
I reccomend replacing the matches with a magnesium firestarter. Take the fire starter and a cheap but stong knife and ductape wrap them to the outside.
The other items are pretty standard.
This is a great kit at a great price!!!

Comments about Lifeline Ultralight Survival Kit:

This package looks great, just bought it and despite reading the packaging, I was still surprised just how much was in here.

The specs of the package are spot on, it's small, light, and has a little bit of room to put in something like hard candy, or a small flashlight.

The packaging is waterproof which is great, and although I hope I never need it, I'm confident I could survive much easier with the little bit they put in here!
