Comments about Lowa Zephyr GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I tried on every pair of boots at two REI locations, including the Denver Flagship, and came home with these. These boots are light but supportive. The high ankle provides my injured ankle with secure and comfortable support. I spent a week in Canyonlands and was very impressed with the traction -- they'll stick to anything. They were great with a 35 pound load. I am not a fan of the look, and there is one spot on the lateral side of each foot where the leather, nylon and rubber molding all come together that can be painful so be sure to flex in them in the store. In the end its all about fit.

Comments about Lowa Zephyr GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I was in the market for a new pair of boots and wanted something light, comfortable with little break-in time. After trying on several pairs, I decided on these and took them straight to Mt Monadnock for a quick day hike (3500' gain/loss). They performed perfectly!!! I haven't hiked in 4 years and have no callus build up at all, at the end of the trip had just a hot spot on one heal (no blister). That aside, they were perfectly comfortable and felt great, which is saying something given I bought them hours before with zero break-in. There was some steep declines I navigated on wet rock and they had really nice grip/traction. I weighed them on my scale (size 9) and they weigh as much as my jogging shoes (1lb 2 ounces each)! Amazing :-) If you're in the market for new lightweight boots with little break-in, definitely worth looking into...

I bought Vasque boots last season and found them to be too narrow for my wider than normal feet. I tried on Merrills and Keens but found the Lowa's to be very comfortable for the wider foot. Used then on a 4 mile hike right away and they were great! Look forward to a full season of use.

I didn't think a boot this lightweight could ever be made that was so comfortable, waterproof, cushioned, protective of soles of feet, great ankle support, and incredible traction on anything you'll ever run across while hiking during three seasons. You don't need heavy hiking socks with these. Lt. weight hiking socks are perfect.

Great shoe, I replaced Vasque Mantra XCR with Lowa's. Great toe area, nice custom feel, which is great for hiking shoe. Good amount of flexibility, and stepping on rocks didn't seem to protrude into the shoe. Amazed by the traction on the shoes since the outer sole isn't as aggressive as the Mantras. Can't say I have any regrets, would get this shoe again.
I haven't worn the shoe in water yet to test the waterproof, nor can vouch for durability yet.

I too, tried on every pair of boots at our local REI store in Concord, CA. The LOWA-Zephyr GTX was the last pair standing. The Zephyr GTX boots felt great!! from the moment I slipped in and tied up. They are extremely light weight, flexible and supportive. The mid-ankle height provides excellent support with a secure and comfortable fit. I left the store wearing my new boots and my wife took hers home in the box. We are looking forward to our weekend hike with no required break-in. Just step in and go... A+ all the way. A Great Father's Day gift.

Bought these boots for a 3 week trip to Europe. Spent nearly a week in the Berner Oberland Swiss Alps. These boots performed great, Steep trails, rain, and snow. At the end of the day wheather it was hiking thru the city or on the trails my feet were Happy. I recommend you try a pair on.

Comments about Lowa Zephyr GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
this seems to be a great boot. though these are boots with designed for a different purpose i am replacing a 12 yr. old pair of sundowners that served their time but became unbearable.
no break-in time: i wore them on an extended trip when buying them the day before. water proof: i hosed and scrubbed them down while my feet were in them and wore them for hours afterwards, as well as wore them in the pouring rain.
the only cons that i can find are that the wet traction on rock and other slick surfaces is severely lacking--dangerous at times when it is needed, and their durability; though it is spilt leather and very comfortable, for long-term durability they do seem to have a slipshod feel.
