Comments about Smith's Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener:
I have the kitchen version of this sharpener and now I always have sharp kitchen knives. I was so impressed with the edge on these knives that I bought three of these for christmas and sent one of them to my Son in Iraq. I am sure that it will work well on his Ka-Bar combat knife. Mine will be used on my pocket folder to ensure that I am always carrying a razor sharp knife. The third one is for my future son-in-law the Federal Policeman for use on his Tactical Folder. This is the sharpening system for anyone who wants a razor edge in Ten Strokes or less...

Comments about Smith's Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener:
Smith's PP1 Pocket Pal Multi-Functional Knife Sharpener is a worthwhile knife sharpener that is easy to use, compact, very affordable and perfect for field use when a quick sharpening is needed.
The Carbides provide a quick edge setting for knives that are very dull or chipped. The ceramic stones provide a razor sharp finished edge on either standard or serrated edges. The carbide and ceramic stones are replaceable. A fold out, tapered round, diamond coated rod is designed for sharpening serrated as well as standard edges. The Pocket Pal Multi-Functional Knife Sharpener is lightweight, durable, and comes with a lanyard hole. It is small enough to put in your pocket if necessary or in an E.D.C. bag.
I tested this sharpener on numerous knives such as a Spyderco, Ka-Bar Tactical, Leatherman, Air Force Survival knife and multiple Swiss Army Knives. I was very pleased how effective and efficient this sharpener worked. The tapered round, diamond coated rod was very easy to use on serrations. The only problem I encountered with this sharpener is that it does not seem to work as well with thicker blades. It does work but it is a little more difficult and the carbides seem to wear the blade down a bit more which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. I would not use this sharpener with a very high quality or expensive knife. I would say this sharpener is perfect for those times when a fast field sharpening of a camping or pocket knife is required.
Overall, I highly recommend this product and I will be purchasing another as a backup.

Comments about Smith's Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener:
This thing is soooo easy to use. No oil is required. It's easy to clean. My blades come out sharp enough to shave. Great for the trail... weighs next to nothing and is tiny too. The only thing it's missing is a built in bottle opener!

Comments about Smith's Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener:
I am very impressed with the Smiths Pocket Pal ability to put an edge on my knives. It is portable, easy to use knife sharpener. I use it to sharpen my 2.75" folding Gerber Magnum Jr pocket knife and my fixed blade Big Rock Camp knife.

Comments about Smith's Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener:
The product has a hole in the top that appears to invite it to be attached to a lanyard. But the stones fall out from ordinary wear and tear if carried in this way. Otherwise, it does what it is supposed to, i.e., quick and effective in-the- field sharpening. But keep it in your tool bag.

Comments about Smith's Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener:
This is replacing another well used Smith sharpener. This one is suited for a wider range of knives because it has an integral sharpener for serrated edges and has a wider opening. I recently acquired a small non-folding knife that has a quarter inch spine. My other sharpener would not accept the blade, but this design does so easily. I still would not use it for a real high dollar knife and it is no substitute for a good set of bench stones, but it is great for taking along on trips to keep your cutting edges in reasonably good shape. Small and light weight, there are not too many reasons for not taking this along with you!

Comments about Smith's Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener:
It says that it is a knife sharpener, but it takes a good knife and turns it into a butter knife. I bought it to take hunting, but I tried it at home home first. Terrible!!! There is no way I could cut cold butter with my knife now, let alone skin a deer. I'm going back to my Lansky!!! A waste of $$$$$

Comments about Smith's Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener:
I got this for my camping knives and EDC knife. Puts a nice sharp edge on and having the diamond rod is nice for the serrated edges. Easy to clean, as I use an old toothbrush to get in and around the stones. I have not sharpened gut hooks, but believe it would do a good job with those as well.
One thing I recommend, check the screw that holds the stones in once in a while. I have not had it come loose, but it is a screw, so there is always that chance. Overall, this a nice affordable and small sharpener you can carry pretty easily.
