Comments about REI Sahara Shirt - Women's:
I love this shirt so much I bought the green, blue, and red. Ladies, how many times have you tried a shirt on for travel, camping, or hiking that just didn't flatter you? Your search ends here. This shirt is not only practical/functional, it's cute. It's lightweight, breathable, and I can wear it for multiple days without washing in the summer without worrying about the funk which is important when you're "out there".
It's cut so that it hugs in all the right places which almost creates a slimming effect; other shirts like this just look like it hangs on me or that it's almost a bit boy-cut. The button holes are quite snug and the buttons are stitched on very well; you won't have to worry about buttons unbuttoning here. There are two zippered vents which are very easy to miss (others can't tell it's there until you unzip it!) and a security pocket on the front torso that is also easily missed near the bottom of the shirt with the opening near the buttons. It's perfect for some spare cash or travel documents. The vent in the back is also nice, as is the extra button stitched onto the reverse side of the garment.
I got an XS and am a 34A or 32B with 26-27 inch waist at 5'4" and 120-125lbs. Fits well around the bust and well around the torso although I could use a tiny bit more room in the shoulders and bust for more freedom of movement. It's not uncomfortable, but it works. Tried on the S and while it's more comfortable in the shoulders, there seems to be a huge increase in size when you jump to the next one so I stuck with the XS. Another thing is that it wrinkles really easily; HOWEVER, it also de-wrinkles easily if you just hang it up for a bit.

THIS is the shirt I've been looking for! It has all of the key features we all look for---most of all it makes you look slim and fit! I have to return mine for a size larger for the same tightness across the chest others have mentioned. The tailoring is top of the line, the fabric is perfect and I love the zipper placements! A+ I cannot WAIT to get this exchange done and get out on the trail with this on!!

after the first wash the fabric pilled. i was extremely disappointed because it's such a great shirt in terms of staying cool in hot weather. i was in shanghai during monsoon season, humid humid humid and it stayed dry, didn't stick to my skin. i'm torn now whether i need to return it for it's pilling qualities

I use this shirt for day hikes and overnight backpacking. The fabric pills where the front strap of the backpack rubs it - but I would expect this of most material where 35 lbs is rubbing against it.
The shirt actually looks good, feels great and vents well on those tough spots on the trail. It dries very quickly, keeps the sun off, and stays fairly odor free over a few days. Any stains I have been able to get out easily and I just follow the washing instructions (as I do with all my gear). As for wrinkling - remove it as soon as its finished drying or it will wrinkle. Or hang it to dry as someone else suggested.
It is just a little tight around the chest for me- which I do not have that problem with my Columbia. However, I still love the shirt and wear it every time I am out in warm weather (which is almost weekly!)

Comments about REI Sahara Shirt - Women's:
I bought the shirt to wear on a trip to Costa Rica, both wet areas and dry areas (but not high performance hiking or adventuring). Drying quickly is a true bonus in the rainy areas, and for packing light. It did not fray, as did a similar, Columbia brand shirt. It does not look so much like what I call "bwana gear" - I did not feel like I stood out as I would in camping gear while walking around in the city. In fact, I have started to wear this shirt to work. For casual commuting in a hottish clime, this is great because I can zip down the sides while biking and zip 'em up when I get to work. The shirt seems long in the torso, but I appreciate the length of the tail when bike riding since jeans these days ride so low. I did not expect to wear this other than on trips but I find that it is always appropriate and comfortable for whatever I'm doing and may buy another.

I bought this shirt for hiking on a trip out to Death Valley and Yosemite. It was great for keeping the sun off and kept me cool in Death Valley. The zipped, mesh openings on the sides were great for extra ventilation when it was really hot. I have only washed it three times so far, but no problems with wrinkling and piling that I see someone else has experienced. It dries so fast that I would recommend just hanging it to dry and skipping the dryer. Now that I am home, I will still wear this shirt as it is quite stylish and has a nice taper to it.

Great for travel - easy to wash, quick drying. Fitted and flattering style, love the side-zip vents and hidden pocket. Claret is a great color - not the usual white/stone/lt. blue/sage colors that are readily available, but still complimentary & versatile to wear with all basic colors. Can't think of any cons. Have washed it several times by hand (traveling) & machine wash/dry with no problems.

This shirt is beautiful and I love it, but had to exchange for one size up, and not because I'm large chested, I'm quite small there, and it was too tight everywhere. One size up is perfect. Highly recommend it. It's stylish and fun.

This shirt is a great fit for plus size girls/women. I wish REI carried more extended/plus size clothing.

Comments about REI Sahara Shirt - Women's:
I bought one of the original versions of this shirt a few years ago and am still loving it. The Sahara can be dressed up with jewelry or a scarf, or just left natural for comfy good looking sun protection for all outdoor activities. It looks good even when you look a bit done in.
The new model has a few changes which I would like to see reversed (hint hint REI): the front pocket used to have a velcro dot closure which allowed quick access to papers, glasses, etc. The new zipper closure pull tab is located next to a button which makes closing the shirt difficult. Second, the original had a side/back zippered pocket which was great for map stashing; this has been deleted in favor of zippered mesh gussets. Third, the original model had a straight hem which looks nice and neat. The new version is longer and looks more like an untucked shirt. The finitions are also not quite as nice, as the seams used to be double stitched. Also note that the white shirt is fairly sheer and requires a cami underneath for modesty (depending on where you travel).
In spite of all these differences :), the Sahara is a pretty darned nice looking, dependable shirt which always travels with me and looks great with skirts, pants or shorts.
