Comments about REI Belltown Parka - Women's:
I bought this parka to be an everyday jacket and it has been great for that -- casual look, nice fit, roomy enough for layers, useable hood w/visor (so many are too small or don't have a visor), very durable (still looks new after 6 mos of lots of wear). I wear a size 6 in clothing and wear a Small in this jacket and it is perfect.
Recently I went on a kayaking trip where I knew we would be in rain and wind most of the day. I hesitated wearing this jacket because I didn't think of it as 'technical' type wear that would hold up to constant rain. But boy did it!! I was so impressed. I wore two thin layers under this jacket and stayed perfectly dry and warm underneath after 4 hours in almost constant downpour and wind!! I truly was surprised and love this jacket all the more now. I really could wear it for anything and expect it to perform well. I have found no drawbacks so far.

Comments about REI Belltown Parka - Women's:
Out of 5 different black hooded rain parkas I bought to try on before a 17-day trip to Italy in November, the REI Belltown parka was the best. It is waterproof, but, most importantly, not clammy due to the mesh lining. (Other brands I tried had no lining, and when I zipped them up, I felt like I was wearing a plastic bag.) Yet even with the lining, the Belltown parka is very lightweight. From Venice to Florence to Rome to Naples, I wore the Belltown parka almost every day, and I always brought it with me in case of rain, crammed inside a lightweight nylon shoulder tote I carried for daily sightseeing. I hardly noticed the weight of the parka when I carried it in the bag, and when I'd pull the parka out to put it on, it always came out looking nice, not wrinkled. The hood has a visor and fits nicely over a wool beret when it's cold. The hood is easily adjustable, too, and kept out the rain really well. The Belltown parka's biggest test came in Pompeii, where it poured buckets of rain for two hours as we wandered among the ruins, but with the hood up, I stayed completely dry, while the rain soaked through the shoulders of my sister's designer cotton trench coat. In colder weather, I wore a long-sleeved cotton shirt with a lightweight cashmere cardigan sweater underneath the parka, plus a small cashmere scarf, wool beret and knit gloves. This combination kept me very comfortable, but the scarf and layers are key, because this is not a warm jacket. However, it keeps out wind and rain better than any rain jacket I've ever owned.

Comments about REI Belltown Parka - Women's:
I just tried on about 20 jackets in my local REI store, and this one was the winner! I'm petite and 5'2" and it fits great and is very flattering - not too bulky, and the adjustable waist cinch is a nice feature (some jackets look like wide tents on me). I haven't worn it out yet, but it seems like such a versatile jacket; I could wear this all fall in cool weather (with layers underneath), in wet weather, to the park with my kids, around town, to work (I tried it on with some nice scarfs to dress it up, and it looks good), and even out on hikes. It also seems like the perfect jacket to take traveling, where you might be in the town and out on trails or on the water, too, all in the same day. I think this will get lots of use for many years to come!

Comments about REI Belltown Parka - Women's:
I love this jacket! I bought it for a trip to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in mid-September, and it was perfect. It's lightweight and takes virtually no room in the suitcase, and is stylish enough for city or town and practical enough for hiking trails. During the course of two weeks, I wore it both for city sightseeing and on hiking trails as a light jacket, a wind-breaker, a rain coat in pouring rain, and, when the temperature dropped, with a polar tech jacket underneath, as a parka. Now that I'm back home in California, it's my favorite light weight jacket, rain or shine.

Note: when I read "parka" I thought this would be a warm winter coat, but it is a lightweight shell, which is just what I was looking for.
