Comments about REI Traverse 30 Pack - Women's:
This is the most expensive day pack I've ever purchased. It was well worth every penny! The comfort of carrying over a gallon of water plus food and minimal clothing down into the Grand Canyon and out again in this pack was excellent. The wide straps on the waist, adjustable shoulder straps and variety of pockets made organizing and carrying my gear extremely efficient. The pocket on the belt is easily accessible while wearing the pack, while the water bottle pouches on the sides accomodate a wide variety of bottle sizes and shapes. I really like the two vertical pouches on the outside.
There are only a couple of things I'd improve about the pack: 1) have the zippers to the main compartment open another inch deeper 2) Add about one inch to the waist strap length.
I'm really pleased with my new pack and am looking forward to more adventures with it.
Service and delivery comments:
The quick delivery of this pack was a must and I was pleasantly surprised that it arrived on the earliest day of the predicted range! I was pleased that REI used minimal, but enough, packaging. I was extremely pleased with in-store service in Atlanta and follow-up phone advice from the Asheville,NC store.

Comments about REI Traverse 30 Pack - Women's:
I bought this when it went on sale. I've been looking for a nice day pack for a few months now. After several summer hiking trips with a borrowed day pack, I gave a lot of thought into what I want. This fits the bill: lots of pockets, good shoulder and back padding, includes rain cover, fits my platypus hydration pack, has a backing that is "rigid" enough to stand up but not heavy (for some reason I can't stand backpacks that just sag when you don't fill it all the way). This backpack is also environmentally friendly, which is a huge plus for me. When it became on sale I bought it online. (I considered it too expensive at full price)
After receiving, I have to say it still fits my bill and also positively surprised me how good it distributed the weight. I put in 3 inch thick programming books in there and was shocked at how light it felt on my back. I also like the mesh pockets on the side for water bottles are actually wide enough for siggs. My previous backpacks and the one I borrowed just won't fit the sigg.
Ok so now the negatives. Yes, the shoulder straps can be scratchy, but I've always thought all backpack straps are scratchy. Yes, the waist straps are short... but I think it's unfair to give it a 1 star.
Ok so the reason why it's not 5 stars to me is - the chest strap, if used, makes the shoulder straps squeeze the girls in an uncomfortable way. I'm pretty flat chested too. This might be an issue with better endowed women. It's fine if I don't use the chest strap.

Comments about REI Traverse 30 Pack - Women's:
I just bought this pack and haven't had tried it outdoors yet. I like that it fits a women's body shape and has plenty of adjustable straps. I especially like the side compartments that snugly fit 32 oz Nalgene bottles. There are a couple of things that I think could be improved to make this a better pack:
1) The mesh material on the straps is very scratchy. You notice it when you're wearing a tank top. I imagine it would become quite irritable after awhile. I might sew on a softer material.
2) I wish the front compartment didn't zip open on the sides because you can't see what's inside, and everything sort of falls out. It would be more practical to have the zipper on top.

Comments about REI Traverse 30 Pack - Women's:
I've been searching for a great day pack to use when I don't need the space of my Deva 60.
As a fit plus-size woman I have never had a problem using REI products, however I am truly disheartened with this pack. The waist belt at it's longest length is about six inches short of buckling properly on me.
Otherwise, this pack seems well thought out, practical and very comfortable.
Unfortunately, mine will be returned.
