These shirts are perfect for a second layer when it's on the cusp of cold weather. They are also breathable for warm weather. Very stylish (make me look skinnier than I actually am) and comfortable.

I bought this shirt to replace my previous workout shirt. I'm very pleased with it. It's roomy so it doesn't chafe & I don't overheat when I'm wearing it. Always a problem for me even at moderate levels of exercise.

I wear this t-shirt for casual outings as well as running/gym. The material for the t-shirt remains unchanged - same comfort, durability and sporty fabric. The cut, however, is more tapered and so more snug. If you have lost weight since the purchase of its predecessor, this new design will fit better and feel better. If you are unsure I recommend going to the store and trying. In general, this is an improvement over its predecessor.

The rating is relative to what you think you are getting / what you seek. This is basically a knockoff of an UnderArmour shirt. High sheen, glossy workout shirt. I went looking for my old MTS Midweight shirts and this is not it. My rating reflects what I was seeking and not the value of the shirt to someone seeking an UnderArmour style garment. If you liked the old MTS shirts, this is NOT it. They still make the MTS style shirts, but only in Kids. I like the MTS shirts much better (personal opinion, many factors) and wish they would make them again. The fabric on the MTS shirts was very soft, stretchy, close fitting and was an excellent base layer. It insulated well and would not 'catch' or unravel easily. This is a totally different shirt...Bring back the MTS! I am glad I went in and looked at these in person instead of ordering off the internet. Also looked at the Sahara shirt, which is also NOT a MTS replacement. (left review on Sahara page as well). Again, just know what you are buying before ordering, and if you ahve previous experience with the REI MTS shirts, don't buy this one expecting a similar product with similar qualities.

REI ignored numerous customer comments when they changed the design of their short-sleeved OXT shirt, and they repeated with their long-sleeved version.
The old version was the world's greatest long-sleeved T - good for casual wear, good for hiking, even okay for running. The new one seems to be a poor imitation of an Under Armour shirt. The material seems a little lighter and stretchier than the old version, but the fit is really, really weird - slightly tight around the shoulders, but really baggy around the stomach. It's like Under Armour for fat people!
If you're carrying a spare tire around the tummy, this would be a good running shirt, but avoid it otherwise.
REI, please, please, please pay attention to your loyal customers and go back to the old design. We'll buy multiple copies of the old ones, but you're just making us angry by unnecessarily changing some of the best products you had.

The new fit is too narrow across the chest; the old fit was better.
REI should label the new cut as "slim fit", and offer their customers a choice of either a "regular fit" or a "slim fit".
Sure, a person can always buy one size larger, but then the sleeves will be too long!
The previous OXT long-sleeve T-shirts were great: they fit, they were not too warm for summer hiking or running, they protected from the sun, and they wicked the sweat away.
Why offer only a "slim fit"? Why not also offer a "regular fit"?

I wore this item on a daily basis during a week long backpacking excursion in the High Country of Yosemite, and Bishop's Pass, May of last year. This was always worn under the REI / Colombia vest (Silver Ridge type).
The OXT is light weight, and with it's moisture wicking abilities, kept me cool while backpacking with a fully loaded REI Saturn pack,@40.lbs in weight, in 80 degree weather.
I had many opportunities to note that very few mosquitos would land on me,while wearing the OXT, and that the few that did, were generally deterred by simple movements. And we often times paralleled streams or lakes.
This was in direct contrast to my attempts to bathe naked in the streams or lakes in the evenings as the mosquitos we encountered were usually thick in these areas, and troublesome to shoo away.
My experience on that hike was so positive that I purchased seven new OXT's. Five long sleeve, and two shorts.
I do wish that REI would bring back the okra color.

Overall very happy with the shirt. I have worn the shirt in triple digit temps in Texas. The shirt wicks as well if not better than more expensive dry fit gear. Only issue for me is the sleeves were a little long. athletic built people might have issue with wider shoulders,chest,and smaller waist. Forced me to buy a larger size. Again for the price will buy over nike or UA gear

Judging by what the last two reviewers said, I'm sorry I bot only 2, 2 years ago. These are about the most comfortable and useful shirts I own for recreating. I use the black when it's cooler and the white when warmer. When camping, I sleep in either when it's not cold enough for thermals. They're easier to wash than a sleeping bag and provide just the right amount of warmth.
Sounds like you should wait until REI finds a better source.
