Comments about REI OXT Tech Long-Sleeve T-Shirt - Men's:
Just as with the short sleeve version of this shirt, REI changed the tailoring this year for the long sleeve OXT, and the new version is not as good.
First, the shirt is much narrower through the shoulders. If you're a skinny guy, you might not notice, but if you have an athletic or muscular build, you'll feel more constricted. Second, although the item description lists "flat lock seams," the seams on the shoulders are not flat lock like they used to be. Instead, the seams now "stand up" on your shoulders (because the fabric is so light).
It doesn't look right, and it doesn't feel as nice, either. This shirt used to be perfect for everything: the gym, running, even casual wear. (The old version was still a pretty close fit.) But with the new changes, the shirt looks and feels more like one of those cheap "Sportiva" or whatever brand you might see for ten bucks at your local chain sporting goods store. Until REI fixes this shirt, I'd stick with other brands like Columbia, etc.

Comments about REI OXT Tech Long-Sleeve T-Shirt - Men's:
I have to agree with Rod. This shirt has taken a turn for the worse. It used to be perfect. I love the lightweight, stretchy fabric. However, its smaller now and the seams are irritating. Why does REI have to ruin a perfect design? Fortunately I bought 4 shirts of the old design. Hopefully they will last until the next random REI design that actually fits comfortably. The lesson here, folks, is stock up on REI items that you like before they get poorly redesigned next year.

Comments about REI OXT Tech Long-Sleeve T-Shirt - Men's:
I have been through the evolutions of this shirt (and the short-sleeved version). I have almost a dozen. I find them extremely versatile. In the winter, they go under things for hiking, shoveling snow, etc. (but are presentable if I de-layer). In the summer, I wear the short-sleeved model almost every day indoors and out. I ride a bike five or six days a week. In the winter, one of these is often what's touching my skin. In the summer, sometimes I just don't need my spiffy, half-zip jersey, and these shirts are perfectly fine -- especially in really hot weather. They wick off streams of sweat well, and dry quickly if you stop for break. (On my four-cylinder bike, it's great under a protective jacket.) To me, the fabric has a nice, silk-like drape. (I wore a black one under a sport coat to a white-tablecloth restaurant in downtown DC a week ago. I probably would have even ditched the jacket if it weren't for the cheesy logo on the sleeve.) I see a lot of conflicting comments on this product. It's changed a bit, but it's hard to see it going from a stellar 5 to trashy 1. Some say the newer edition is tighter; I'd say, if anything, the fit is looser. (I've moved from XL to L -- I'm 6'4" 200.) Different strokes for different folks. Bottom-line for me: this is a co-op trying to produce functional gear at very competitive prices -- and kicking back discounts to us to boot. The product conforms to that mission nicely -- excellent functionality and great price.

Wanted a long sleeve T-shirt to wear backpacking. This shirt breathes, wicks moisture and dries quickly when wet as good as or better than considerably more costly brand names. Great shirt!!

I bought two of these for kayaking because of the SPF factor. It didn't take long to figure out that this is the best long sleeve all-around active sports shirt I own. The fit is comfortably loose, the sleeves are long enough and don't ride up, the tail is long enough to tuck, the washer doesn't snag it, the shirt drys fast, and looks great.
Now, if REI would only eliminate, or reduce the size, of that silly OXY label/symbol on the sleeve, the shirt would be perfect.

Although I own the quarter-zip model, the overall affect is undoubtedly similar. This shirt was a life-saver in the Grand Canyon Kaibab Trail. Weather ranged from 100 degrees plus to cold rain on the rims. Cheaper than other brands and just as effective if not more so.

Comments about REI OXT Tech Long-Sleeve T-Shirt - Men's:
The fabric has a very nice feel to it -- cool and smooth -- and it has a bit of stretch to it so it never feels restrictive. The shirt breathes well but still provides a little protection from the breeze. This is my favorite for outdoor activities on days that are a little chilly for short sleeves, but too warm for a jacket.
I marked "feels too big" because the sizing runs a little larger than I'm used to; I normally wear medium tee shirts but in this case I found the small fit me best. The sleeve length seems generous, nice for tall people like me.

I have a few of these shirts, ranging from long-sleeve to sleeveless, and I pretty much love them all. I typically use them for long runs, and I find the material does not chafe nearly as much as the half dozen or so other brands I've tried; I don't wear any body glide on my chest or anything, either.
For me (5'9", 172#), a size L fits pretty well.
