Comments about REI Halo +10 Sleeping Bag - Women's Regular:
I bought this bag for my wife a year ago to serve as her Winter bag for weekend backpacking trips in NC, TN, and VA. I don't normally write reviews of products but thought our experience with this bag deserved a review. There are alot of positive things about the bag and one important negative.
First, the positive. My wife reported that it was very comfortable and roomy given her small frame (5'3" 115lbs). She also reported staying very warm atop Mt Rogers, VA in January with temps near zero and raining/snowing all night (she is a very cold sleeper). We both agreed that for the price paid it was a bargain for a down bag.
Now the only negative. I hate these bags (and backpacking gear in general) that use this thin material as a shell. I know it is ultra-lightweight, but it snags and tears too easily! Perhaps if you feel you'll never use the bag in an environment that is prone to snags or tears then you will not have to worry about encountering such a situation. But if you backpack in the wilderness, stuff your bag in a pack that has zippers and other gear, or like to take your dogs along for the trip then you will surely snag or tear the bag sometime early in it's life. I'm sorry but I'm just not to the point yet where counting ounces in fractions matters more than gear that is reliable and built tough. I have had a Marmot 800+ fill bag for 10+ years and it has not let me down yet. The material used as the shell is noticeably thicker and thereby tougher. On this bag's second backpacking trip my wife pulled it out of her pack only to catch a rough piece of fabric on her pack creating 5-6 small tears that produced a personal snow shower of goose down.
Luckily REI is great company and they allowed us to return it with no questions asked. I take care of my gear and expect to use it for years to come after purchase. If the trend of comprising gear quality for a fraction of an ounce continues I guess I will have to learn how to sew in order to make my own gear. REI and other companies... please stop making gear that only lasts when it is handled with extreme care and caution. Start making gear that is built to last! Maybe I'm alone in this gripe... But surely there are other people out there who feel the same way?

Comments about REI Halo +10 Sleeping Bag - Women's Regular:
I bought this bag for a recent trip to Yosemite, where in April, the temperatures drop to the mid-20s. I am a cold camper, and had returned a bag that didn't keep me warm, so I did a lot of research to make sure I ended up with a bag that would keep me warm. The Halo didn't disappoint. The bag was toasty, plush, and comfy. It's extremely light and I preferred the feeling of it compared with the Cat's Meow, or the Angelfire bags which I also tested out in the store. The baffle construction is solid -- I experienced no cold spots. I wish it had a slightly wider footbox, and a pocket for stuffing a pillow. Other than that, the Halo is perfection.

Comments about REI Halo +10 Sleeping Bag - Women's Regular:
I was so excited about this bag but upon arrival found that the footbox is really small. I'm not a huge person and have never had problems with feeling claustrophobic in a mummy but the narrowness at the knees made lying in it really uncomfortable. I found that the constriction in movement was so unbearable i returned it immediately. Just a heads up!

I'm stoked about this bag. I was unsure about getting a 10deg bag because I always had problems with sweatiness and claminess in my old one and was wary about getting one that was too warm.
In this bag, even when I woke up a bit warm and there was condensation on the tent, I was dry and the inside of my bag was dry. So much more comfortable! I slept well throughout a range of temps in Colorado, dropping down to 20 some nights, and other nights remaining close to 60!
Money well spent, I say.

Comments about REI Halo +10 Sleeping Bag - Women's Regular:
I currently have a wide array of bags anywhere from a -20degree to a 40degree. I bought this bag because of all the hype about it being a "true" rating bla bla bla. I took it up to the north cascades the night i bought it, last april when the pass opened, and went backcountry skiing for a few days. I was SOOOOO cold. I tried it out on a couple other trips and it really didnt work out for me. To top it off, down feathers were coming out EVERYWHERE. It was amazing how many feathers were pouring out of the thing. Everybody is raving about this bag so maybe I just got a dud, but I sure was disappointed and returned it. The foot box is a lil narrow and could use a couple more inches as well.
It IS a very comfortable bag all in all, and has GREAT compression.

Comments about REI Halo +10 Sleeping Bag - Women's Regular:
Just started snow camping and absolutely love this bag. I was able to compress my bag, bivy, and liner into one compression sack to about the size of a basketball. The temp dropped into the high teens low twenties and I never once felt cold. Warmed up right away when I climbed in the bag. Had plenty of room to move and sleep in my side. My pillow stayed put in my hood. All round a great bag.

Comments about REI Halo +10 Sleeping Bag - Women's Regular:
After trying out several sleeping bags at the store, I was so excited to bring this home! It is comfortable, soft, has a huge hood, is lightweight, and seemed to fit in all the right areas. When camping it kept me warm. On the other hand, it was not too hot when I used it sleeping on the couch while visiting friends.
Unfortunately, the shell is super thin and very delicate. When separating the velcro around the hood a seam ripped and subsequently leaked down feathers all over. I suppose if you are car camping and are very careful with how delicate it is, this would be a great sleeping bag in the sense of warmth. Otherwise, I would say this is not very functional for most uses.

Comments about REI Halo +10 Sleeping Bag - Women's Regular:
This bag was exactly was I was looking for, 750 fill, lightweight, roomy, but also snug, and a personals pocket, but unfortunately the zipper snagged and ripped the shell. There is now a hole my finger can fit through and is sadly bleeding feathers.
I'm on an outdoors restoration crew that goes out into the wilderness for 10 days at a time where we experience 0 degree weather and it did not keep me warm because there was too much hip room. I saw it as a good and bad thing: 1)It left WAY too much room for air and dead space, but then I used that as an advantage by 2)stuffing an older down bag, my jackets, and a blanket around me! That fixed everything at once! I was toasty, snug, and able to sleep.
Other than the "rip-stop nylon" losing to the zipper, I really liked this bag!

Comments about REI Halo +10 Sleeping Bag - Women's Regular:
I bought this REI down-filled sleeping bag for backpacking. I needed something that would pack small and tight but still wanted the comfort and the warmth that comes with bulkier bags. This bag does not disappoint! Best for 3-season backpacking (although a bit warm for summer) car camping and any other pursuit that has you sleeping outdoors. My husband bought the matching men's REI bag and we were able to zip them together to create a roomy 2-person sleeping bag during mild weather. The only downside to this bag is that the zipper gets snagged rather easily. You have to be careful so you don't rip the material. Also, since it is a warm bag, I would wear cotton at night to avoid feeling like you're sleeping on nylon. Other than that, it has been a great, reliable product. I would definitely order again!
