Comments about Mountainsmith Photo Tour FX Lumbar Pack:
Iv'e used this pack for about a month, and it works just the way I like. I use the shoulder strap WITH the waist strap for extra suport (and it slides from front to back pretty easily). The zipper is on the body's side so when it is in front things wont fall out. It also has a top opening for filters, cards and what-not.
It fits my Canon XTI (with Battery Pack) and 70-300 IS attached faceing down comfortably (I put it at one side). When doing this, I recomend placeing a Velcro pad (many are included) verticly in a way that suports the camera's grip. This keeps the camera from compressing the lens and keeps it against the side securly.
Other things I pack are a 18-55, AA batterys and AA batery grip cartrige, 500d close up filter, Polarizer, lens cleaning suplys, etc.
There is still room too with a front, zippered pouch that I havn't even used yet. There are side loops that are perfect for lens cases that holds as big of a lens like a 100-400 or 70-200 2.8 (I'd look for a lowepro paded lens case). Then a consumer cam with wide angle zoom and a smaller prime could fit in the main compartment. But although with all of that, a backpack might be better because of the weight!
Overall, I love it. Check it out at the store (That's where I got mine) and bring your equipment. It's worth it in my opinion!
