I've had several of these now, and all of them have slowly deflated even on the first use. It seems like a possible manufacturing or quality control issue. It's too bad because it seems great other than the fact that it doesn't do the one thing it is supposed to. Returning this last one for something from another manufacturer.

This product worked great for one direction of a very long trip. On the way back it had a leak or lack of sealing that cause it to deflate about every hour. Returned it as soon as I got back; will try out the new version of this pillow that seems to inflate better.

I bought this after it was recommended to me prior to a 3-month trip abroad, and afterwards I wondered why I hadn't had it all my life! It made overnight bus and train rides considerably less miserable by not letting my neck get stiff sideways or get jolted. You can inflate/deflate to personal desired plumpness. It folds up so can store in included small pouch so that you can bring comfort with you. External thin clothe (like pillowcase) can be washed w/ laundry.

My reply to the reviewer who found it very difficult to close the valve in time to avoid significant air loss: simply squeeze the valve shut with one hand while using the other hand to cap the valve, this worked very well for me, once I discovered it.
This neck rest has worked fine for me for over a decade. I use it primarily for a neck support while I lay on the floor practicing deep muscle relaxation. It is better than a small towel rolled up under the neck. I place it upside down, so to speak, and it holds my neck and cradles my head beautifully, allowing deep neck and shoulder relaxation. I own three.

After reading the other reviews I wonder if they've changed this product for the worse. The one I purchased has no internal flap to hold air in while you close the inflation valve, therefore it is virtually impossible to inflate this to any sort of adequate firmness. The only way to do it is to insert the 'male' portion of the valve with your tongue so that you still have it full of air, and if you do this you invariably make the valve wet, so that with any pressure in the pillow the plug just comes right out. I bought it for an overseas flight and tried for fifteen minutes to get it inflated before throwing it, regrettably, in the trash. Very poor product for REI.

I bought this for travel and it works great. It is durable and compact. You can adjust the amount of air in the pillow/firmness, offering good neck support on airplanes. The cover is washable and no problems at all after using it frequently for more than a year. Good buy for the money.

This is my backpacking luxury item. It fits in the pillow section of my sleeping bag & gives my neck great support! At home I use one of those neck-support pillows. So I use this one upside down, put a shirt or hat in the indent, and sleep in great comfort. I was never happy with using clothes alone as a pillow.
