Comments about Sierra Designs Hurricane HP Rain Jacket - Men's:
This fabric is NOT breathable, contrary to the representation on the label and advertising. The jacket is not suitable for anything other than completely sedentary activities. It is waterproof, but do not expect to stay dry on the inside. The hood has limited adjustabilty, making visibilty problematic unless you wear a ball cap under the hood.

Comments about Sierra Designs Hurricane HP Rain Jacket - Men's:
I keep this in my backpack for those "just in case" situations. It's cheaper than other rain jackets and stows nicely which makes it a nice extra jacket to carry around, but it breathes poorly. I would spend the extra $20-$40 for a jacket that breathes better, and most stow tightly too.

The zippers are too weak. The side pocket zipper fell apart and the chest pocket zipper gets stuck.

i am a professional climber and i know my gear. sierra designs is a great company but i was a little let down by this one. this jacket does just rite when it coes to being waterproof except for the areas where they're are zippers, theres not enough protection there and unless im wearing a pack water gets through the zippers. another thing is that this jacket does not breath, i will go out for a day hike and get caught in the rain and put this thing on and i might as well have not worn it because i end up getting soaked on the inside to. one thing i like about it though is that it is a good price for the weight. at 7 ounces its a good weight for me. this jacket is a piece of gear that i carry but not for rainwear, i usually carry this for a lite wind breaker, thats the one thing that this jacket does good. for rain wear i would persoally recomend arctryx. good hiking to all.. . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Honestly, I read the reviews on this product before I bought it. I ended up ignoring them because I've had good luck with Sierra Designs products before. That being said, this jacket doesn't breathe at all. I had the chance to wear it one day at work and I ended up being a clammy mess by the end of my shift. On my second day of owning it, I went to put it on and found that one of the pit zip seams had ripped from end to end. I took it back and got an REI Ultra Light, which I'm much happier with.

I am an avid backpacker and live in the southeast where it doesn't get too cold even in extreme winter. I have found that this set does great for the price. Sure there are some jackets and pants that breathe better but also cost three times as much. For those of us enjoying the outdoors on a budget you can't get a better set for the price. At 7oz this jacket is extremely light weight and is a great addition to your gear. With a layer underneath I have not noticed the moisture issues that others have complained about. I would not use this in the extreme humid summer but have not found any rain gear that I would. In the summer when the weather goes south "down south" I find it better to enjoy the refreshing rain and put on a dry set of clothes at camp. If the saying goes "you get what you pay for" then I believe that I got a great set of rain gear without hitting the wallet too hard!!

Comments about Sierra Designs Hurricane HP Rain Jacket - Men's:
I was looking for a basic waterproof jacket for overnight backpacking in both 4-season temperate and desert California conditions, and am reviewing the 5 jackets I tried against that use.
This jacket, while the successor to all that I could afford in college, is a basic water resistant jacket. It is not waterproof, nor do its sales tags claim that it is. It is not very durable. The jacket pockets cannot hold a nalgene water bottle for mornings below freezing. But it is very light and it packs down incredibly small for a rain jacket.
Having said that, it might be a nice introductory rain jacket and windbreaker shell for day hikes, for college students just trying to scrape by, or for someone who needs the lightest, most compact windbreaking shell without true waterproofness.
In my 10 minute home shower test with a fresh t-shirt underneath, my belly got 70% covered with water, my sides were 10% covered with water, and my upper back was 12% covered with water.
Waterproofing weaknesses were: non-waterproofed front zipper (protected only by folds in shell material), packet zippers, and water eventually coming through the upper back material away from any seams or zippers.
General comments after testing 5 rain jackets: I found you must spend at least $200 for a jacket that is truly waterproof. Even then, expect to be wet from your own sweat in a rainstorm no matter what breathability claims the manufacturer prints. Some experienced mountaineers have told me to just buy fleece and wool midlayers that will keep you warm when wet, because you can't avoid being wet in a lengthy rainstorm.

this jacket kept me dry from rain, is super light weight, very compressable and suprisingly durable. it fits rather well and is good to have as a "just in case" jacket. my only complant is that the zippers jam up quite a bit.
overall, i think this is a good rain jacket for backpacking and for emergency siturations.

Comments about Sierra Designs Hurricane HP Rain Jacket - Men's:
I got this jacket for [$] off Steep and Cheap so I wasn't expecting a whole lot. I would say I got my money's worth. Although I was expecting something that I could trust in a decent rain, I wouldn't trust this jacket in anything more than a drizzle for more than a few minutes. The main issue is the lack of welding on the zippers, but then again it was [$]. It doesn't breathe well at all although the pit zips do help. The DWR finish was never really there to begin with. The jacket does have a nice trim fit. I mostly use this jacket as a windbreaker that has a moderate ability to fend off light rain, which it does a nice job of, or as a wind breaking layer over a fleece. I would say that if that's what you're looking for and you can get it on sale, it's not a bad purchase.
