Comments about The North Face McMurdo Down Parka - Men's:
This jacket is exceptionally rugged. It is also huge, so don't buy it if you're looking for a daily commuter (unless you live in the north pole). The hood is so big, it looks funny, but you can remove it if you really want too. You could easily snowboard in the most extreme conditions with this on and nothing underneath!

Comments about The North Face McMurdo Down Parka - Men's:
I purchased this parka last season for winter field work in Alaska, which typically involves working in pretty inclement conditions. It has since become my favorite piece of field equipment. Yes, it is bulky; yes, it is heavy. But it does an excellent job of staving off frostbitten limbs while still providing a more-than-adequate range of motion, allowing me to do my job comfortably despite extreme conditions.
My only issue concerned the synthetic ruff and hood construction. I'm sure the stock button-in faux fur ruff keeps a slight breeze off the face of Johnny-walks-to-work on a chilly pacific northwest day. However, it didn't really hold up to my standards. The fact that the ruff is detachable, rather than stitched in, leaves noticeable gaps between the hood and the ruff when the hood is cinched tight. I might be nitpicking, but the wind here can be pretty unforgiving and you've gotta keep your noggin warm. So, it was replaced with a genuine coyote ruff stitched directly to the hood. NOW it's perfect.
Bottom line: This is a solid jacket with a price tag to boot. Good alternative to a more pricey Canada Goose parka, assuming the ruff modification. Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
Cheers.

Comments about The North Face McMurdo Down Parka - Men's:
I bought the McMurder to make sure I stayed warm during my trek to and from work where temps often dip to -30C. I made the decision to buy a size larger (XXL) in order to layer up and I'm glad I did. The parka was a GREAT purchase and it makes my time spent outside very enjoyable. I am one of the few who complains when needing to spend time outside. Yes, the hood is large, but when those winds start to howl, I'm happy to have it. Very well made, well constructed, and wonderfully filled with warm down.
