Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:

my wife and i just got through backpacking around europe for three weeks and i can't imagine finding a better pack than this one. the zip on day pack idea is brillant, i'm not sure if rei came up with it or not, but it's something you'll use everyday on a trip like our's. the small day pack was great for going to check out museums, churches, small hikes, and small shopping sprees. the main pack has a super easy access flap that lets view everything in the pack without having to dig to the bottom of everything. this pack looks awesome too. i look so cool in this pack i could kill myself. i got the brown, i only wish they had the men's in mineral, that's the best color i've ever seen for a pack.

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:

[...] I bought the REI Grand Tour Travel Pack and use the day pack portion for my daily commutes to work. The larger pack portion is able to house my REI Polar Pod sleeping bag in its own dedicated storage area and still have extensive room for all of my other stuff. The day pack can be easily attached to the main pack allowing it to become one large pack which can be used as a backpack or converted to carry as a duffle. So far, I am carrying more in the day pack than I had in the previous pack and it feels much more comfortable, and the entire pack easily out performs my previous backpack which is now being used by one of my sons. I am very pleased with this purchase and am looking forward to many years of future backpacking and travel with it.

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:

Been carrying one of these for about 4 years as my primary piece of luggage. Blew a major hipbelt seam afer 2 years and REI instantly refunded the cost which I used to get the newer, better version. I travel about 40 weeks a year and this will handle 2 days in Seattle as easily as 2 weeks in Sydney. Large capacity, good suspension that zips away, and the right features for travel and occasional hikes. The zip off daypack is OK but rarely needed. It will fit in airplane overheads even though it is technically over the size limit. A friend even used it for the full length of the Na Pali coastal trail last year!

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:

Just got back from three weeks in Europe traveling exclusively by train. This pack made moving around, through train stations, on and off trains very smooth. The grab handles are very handy. Day pack got lots of use for side trips, day trips, etc. Returning home, zipped up the back cover and checked the main pack for the flight, no sweat. Some zippers were balky at first but after use, they were fine. Highly recommend this pack for long trips especially if airplanes and trains are involved.

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:

This pack has great features and the main compartment is easily accessible. I really liked the separate zip compartments within the main area and the top pocket. Also, it is nice to close off the bottom pocket from the main area to carry shoes or dirty clothes in. The zip off day pack was great and again, filled with many organizational pockets within. One problem with this pack was the first time I used it, when I went to grab it off the luggage carousel at the airport, the side grab handle tore out halfway, which made me leary about the rest of the pack holding up. Also, if you are carrying a heavy load, the support system is not the most comfortable.

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:

While I enjoyed using this pack for the most part I found the handles come apart much too easily. I have now gone through two of these and may very well buy a third because the capacity and fit are good. I do not recommend it, however, because the handles come apart from the pack. The first pack I bought I used during a month long European vacation. I took the rail everywhere. After lugging the pack around for a couple of weeks, the seams in the handles started to come apart from the body of the pack. I took the pack to REI and they replaced it for me.The first trip I took with my new pack, the handle broke the first time I picked it up and I probably had less weight in it then when I had the previous pack. Again, REI took the pack back. I didn't replace it this time [...] My hope was that they were fixing the issue in manufacturing, but we'll see.I will try again but it would be great if REI could work out this issue. If so, this would be the best pack out there.

I've been doing weekend trips ever since I purchased this backpack in July. The detachable mini backpack is incredibly convenient for exploring the city as well as going in and out of the airport.

I wish the straps had pockets as the REI camping backpacks do.

Comments about REI Grand Tour Travel Pack:

I chose this for a 2 week trip to Southern Africa because of minimal internal frame and light weight (for the bush plane requirments). Loved the zip off day pack both for roaming around the cities and to carry my cameras on safari and the way everything was easily accessible in the main pack. Also the backpack straps came in handy hauling it to and from airports and hotels/camps in 3 countries, but both side and top handle straps broke very quickly. Plenty of space but just need to work on better strap attachment.
