Comments about REI Adventure Dog Boots:
it's a good product, but like it says in the cons, it rubs the dogs high toe (not sure what it's called). What works well for me is to use them only about half the time. My dog gets really sore paws from a 20 mile hike if I don't use them at all, so I will put them on for the hike out maybe and take them off for the hike back. Also, sometimes I will also have them on for an hour or two, then take them off. When your dog first puts them on he will walk around like he's on the moon. . . HILARIOUS!!!!!!!

Comments about REI Adventure Dog Boots:
It took my Black Lab about 45 seconds to get used to them. Before those 45 seconds, it was nothing less than walking like Bambi. I started one day with only the front, and by the second day we had him with all four. I like taking my dog for a walk/jog in the Arroyos (dry riverbeds) but found out that the rocky surface bothered him after a couple of trips. So I gave these boots a try and my dog is wagging his tail as we take the same routes. I first saw these at a REI store but didn't look very promising. After coming home and reading the reviews, I decided to buy them from [@] for half the price. I wish I could get him to moon walk like the other person mentioned :)

Once I got the knack for tightening the boots and getting them on well, these boots are perfect for the roughly paved roads we live on. Our foster dog's feet were too tender to be able to walk on these roads and he trots right along for miles on the roads now with these boots on. They're low enough not to restrict movement. I got a medium for a 62 lb Golden with long legs and they fit perfectly and stay on well. He doesn't mind them at all.

Comments about REI Adventure Dog Boots:
I own two dogs medium sized dogs (pit bull and lab mix) and during a recent trip to the Grand Canyon with them I decided they needed shoes to protect their feet. Even though I was keeping them off the asphalt and sidewalk areas the sand was still too hot for their paws. Living in Arizona I also do desert hiking and they were consistently getting cacti thorns in their paws. So before a camping trip I decided to get them shoes and did some research. Since I wouldn't use them on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis I was having a hard time brining myself to pay $160 for shoes that they may only use a few times a year but I also didn't want to get something that was so cheap that they would only last 1 trip.
When I found these shoes and read the reviews I was still hesitant but these were EXACTLY what they needed. They stayed on perfectly for the lab mix (as long as they were cinched tight like one of the reviews said) but I did have issues with one shoe on my pit bull. Her front paw shoe would rotate a lot but she runs, sits and walks sideways so I think it is more her than the shoe since I had no issues with the lab mix. I do recommend that when you are putting them on to have the dog standing with their weight on the paw you are putting the shoe on to make sure you are able to Velcro them correctly. After a very short adjustment period they were both running around like pros.

I have never left a review on any item, but I just had to for these booties because I was so impressed with them. Once I figured out the proper tightness (it takes a time or 2 of trial and error) they never came off. Only 1 foot would twist when my crazy dog would do the aligator death roll in the grass which is normal for him to do. He "moonwalked" for about a minute after I put them on him but after that he loved them. He usually doesn't like running through mud but he loved "off-roading" in his boots. They kept his paws nice and safe (he has torn his paw pad before). For [$], you can't go wrong. My only upgrade would be to add a wicking material like a sock style liner because dogs to sweat through their paws and it got a little damp in the boot. Other than that, great design.

I use these booties on my dog when she's chasing her tennis ball in gravel; the booties help keep her paws safe and free from cuts. The booties seem to run a full size small, so get the next size up. Other than that, they're easy to put on, don't move around too much if you make sure they're tight enough, and they keep my dog's paws safe.

Comments about REI Adventure Dog Boots:
Well, in one aspect, these suite my dogs needs. I purchased them to cover the dressing on his cut foot and to keep dirt off of it, so far it does this (this is day 1).
This is literally the only reason I would ever get dog shoes, unless my dog was a SAR k9 that worked in disaster areas with broken glass and such or if he was a sled dog that did 50+ miles a day. Beyond these reasons I think shoes for dogs are an absurd product, along with rain coats, outdoor beds, dog tents and such. They are DOGS, they are designed to function perfectly out side with out our clothing. When you put these shoes on them, guess what, they cant use there claws and it alters the natural movement of their feet to provide stability and traction in various substrate. They don't need shoes for trail running like we do, next we will see sunglasses and ear muffs for dogs, get a grip, let your dog be a dog. Yes, my dog cut his foot running through the forest and these may have prevented that (or caused him to loose traction, slip and get hurt much worse), but cuts and bruises are part of life.

Comments about REI Adventure Dog Boots:
DO NOT STAY ON IN ICY OR SNOWY CONDITIONS
it took about 10 minutes for the velcro to ice up and fail. had to stop and put boots back on countless times. you have to cinch down the velcro to get the boots snug on the foot, but there is no stay to keep the velcro strap from slipping off the top of the boot and onto the dog's ankle; so then the back of the boot sags open and debris can get in. absolutely no good in snow. the velcro icing up combined with the back of the boot sagging open makes them even more useless. the boots fall off in minutes or moisture gets in the back and freezes to your dog's pads : (
these were used on my 70 lb Am Staff to go adventuring in cold/wet weather (some snow, ice etc). i found them to be sized large, even though i measured my dog's pads and followed the size chart, I had to exchange for a smaller size.
maybe if the boots were slightly shaped (like a sock) and had a neoprene cuff that folded up over the velcro to keep debris out, they would work. but these are getting returned

Comments about REI Adventure Dog Boots:
I purchased these boots for my Cardigan Welsh Corgi, who often shuffles his feet while walking and wears his nails down too much. The boots fit him well and he walks well in them. Only problem is that the boots are not made very well, and they wear out quickly. One pair lasts about 1.5 to 2 weeks max (with 30-45 min walks every day). The stitching does not hold together well. If they took this exact same design, and did better stitching, and maybe put a little rubber sole on the bottom to soak up some of the friction and wear and tear, then it would be a much better product. But then it would probably cost more too. At $[$], these are not exactly cheap. They should last longer than 2 weeks.
Comments about REI Adventure Dog Boots:
I bought these for my English Bulldog. They are basically little sacks with a draw string velcro strap on them. The underside does have a harder surface, which I think would protect the dogs feet from rocks, ice, etc.. Only problem is they don't really stay on. We tried to get him to wear them in the house and they twisted around and fell off enough that we took them back and are buying the Muttluks brand, which I was hoping REI carried because the reviews are better.
The Santa Monica REI did have some other types/brands, but we didn't try them on due to the higher pricing. While it was enjoyable to watch my dog walk around like he was wearing flippers, they just won't work for us, no matter how tight the velcro is.
