Took the reservoir out on a 2 day back country trek in Oklahoma. Very easy to use system. I didn't have any issues with leaking or malfunctions. A full bladder weighs about 6 lbs.
I'd recommend this over the Camelbak or Osprey system because of it's ease of filling and cleaning.

I love this as a water bottle! I've always had a hard time drinking enough water on hikes - I'd go up with two full liters and come down having only drunk half a liter or less. After signing up for a three-month mountaineering class I decided I had to figure out how to get myself to drink more water, and this turned out to be the perfect answer! Having the hose right there bouncing on my shoulder is great for reminding me to keep hydrating. As an added bonus, it is lighter than my two 1L bottles but carries 50% more.
For anyone wanting to take this on a mountain but worried about the hose freezing: I've found that it works great in combination with the CamelBak Antidote (http://www.rei.com/product/851503/camelbak-antidote-thermal-control-kit). I've never had the hose freeze on a day trip. It did freeze overnight when I left it out in my tent while snow camping, but I was able to heat it up inside my coat. I suspect that detaching and emptying the water from the hose would solve the overnight problem.

I have to admit that this is the first and only hydration that I've had. Prior to purchase-I've read reviews on here to see which would be the best so I decided to go with this one.
And I cannot be more happier with my decision....It's very easy to use. does not leak,water tastes fresh and it fits perfectly in my Gregory Jade 38 pack.

This bladder is the best one I've ever used. The slide-lock opening makes is super easy to fill/empty. The quick-connect tubing allows you to easily insert your bladder into your pack. The handle on top also makes transport easier. The tube even has a clip for easy access while on the move. I recommend getting the 3 liter just because it's better to have more water than less, and if you feel you don't need 3 liters, you can just not fill it up the entire way. I frequently go through the 3 liters on full-day trips though. I highly recommend this as oppose to the camelback bladders with the screw-on opening since the platypus is much easier to fill and if the screw-on lid gets a little bit frozen its a nightmare to open. Enjoy!

I have both a 1.8 and a 3 liter Platpus. I change bladders as needed and use the same hose, which is treaded though my 25 liter Mammut pack. Both bladders work prefect every time. The mouth piece is a little big for fitting inside the insulated sleve of my pack but it fits. Also, the mouth piece is a little tricky to get water from sometimes times...

This is the first hydration bladder I've personally bought and used. Have seen many of my friends using Camelbaks over the years. The main problems people seemed to have with that brand is filling and cleaning. This Platypus Big Zip solves both problems in one design, with a wide opening at one end that makes filling with ice, water, snow very easy. Cleaning is likewise simpler through the same opening.
The hose, release mechanism and the bite valve all have worked very well for me. The only problem I had with it was that it doesn't fit in the hydration sleeve of my 44L pack. I did try the empty bladder in the store and it fit, but once filled to the full 3.0L amount, it will not go in the sleeve. It's really more the backpack's fault than the bladder, but just be forewarned that on midsize packs, this bladder may not fit. It does hang freely inside my pack, which is not ideal, but is perfectly fine for my purposes. Having 3.0L of water on a long trek is a tradeoff worth making.
The zip style closure itself does concern me a bit, since it seems it could come loose more easily than some other styles of closure, but having done a fairly basic stress test and used it in the field, I've yet to encounter any leaks or shifting of the zip mechanism.
One other issue apparently common to hydration bladders is a "plastic" taste to the water. I did not even clean the inside of this one before using it, just to see the taste, and I assure you that there is NO taste to the water in my Platypus except pure, clean H2O. I am 100% certain this is the best product I could have purchased for the price.
