Comments about Leki Super Makalu Cor-Tec AS Trekking Poles - Pair:
Otherwise nice sticks, but the anti-shock mechanism cannot be turned off. (New in 2008. I checked with Leki customer service.) I'm going to return them. Anti-shock is great going down, but bad going up.

Comments about Leki Super Makalu Cor-Tec AS Trekking Poles - Pair:
Reading previous comments it's obvious folks are just not following simple instructions. Can't put a link here but if you'll go to the Leki webpage you'll find a PDF file there that's called "Fix it on the spot". Yes it will lock securely and hold ... even under severe abuse. Trust me ... I use mine and have used this particular model for several years. YES the anti-shock will lock ... read the instructions.
Great set of sticks if you can get over the sticker shock. BUT my first Supers have lasted over six years for sure. Little scratched up but going strong.

Comments about Leki Super Makalu Cor-Tec AS Trekking Poles - Pair:
These poles saved my hike to Half Dome Yosemite. After hurting my right knee 4 miles into my hike, I really leaned on these poles for the next 17 miles and they never failed once. These Leki's are lightweight and easy to carry, they lock solid and do not slip. By far the best hiking investment I've made in years. It's funny, I used to laugh at people on trails when I saw them using trekking poles, now I will never go hiking without them...EVER. By the way, my son got a pair of Black Diamonds, but his fail to adjust to the correct length...not good enough when going down hill.

Comments about Leki Super Makalu Cor-Tec AS Trekking Poles - Pair:
These are the best poles I have used. These grips and comfortable and are cool on warm days. They are angled forward so your wrist is in a neutral position. I have never had problems adjusting the poles or with the poles staying locked in place. The poles do have a little shock absorption but I find this beneficial. The poles are a weigh a few ounces more than others on the market. However, I hike in rough terrain and the sturdiness is welcome. Some of the lighter poles do not hold up. I would recommend these to anyone.

Comments about Leki Super Makalu Cor-Tec AS Trekking Poles - Pair:
These are excellent hiking poles. Incredibly lightweight and strong. A little bit overpriced (but I did get a good discount). Very versatile. I'm surprised some people have bad experience with this product.

Comments about Leki Super Makalu Cor-Tec AS Trekking Poles - Pair:
I've had these for several months, since knee surgery in the spring. They are easy to adjust, very strong and the locking mechanism easily supports my weight. The 15 degree grip makes them very comfortable to use and on my pair the spring shock is also able to be locked out. Highly recommended!

Comments about Leki Super Makalu Cor-Tec AS Trekking Poles - Pair:
Although these poles are sturdy when locked and functioning, their locking mechanism is unreliable. I was in the back country with a 50 lb. pack and a full day of trekking ahead when on of the poles failed to lock. I tried several times, even disconnecting the pole entirely and reconnecting, but could not get the pole to lock. I had to stow away the broken pole and finish the hike with the other one. This was a disappointment, given that I had only used the poles only once before. I would stay away from this product unless you are OK with your gear failing in the back country.

Comments about Leki Super Makalu Cor-Tec AS Trekking Poles - Pair:
My main concern is a problem with the collapsing poles. It takes a lot more turns to tighten the Super Makalu than it does with the Sierra, which is a bother, but I did try to tighten the poles as much as possible. Twice during an all-day hike one of the poles collapsed without warning and once, when the pole caught in a root, the bottom section almost pulled all the way out. The sections do not stay tightened. I've had a Leki Sierra pole for years and have been very satisfied with it, but I'm disappointed with the Super Makalu with soft anti-shock.

Comments about Leki Super Makalu Cor-Tec AS Trekking Poles - Pair:
I had 2 pairs of the Leki 2008 poles. I had to take a pair back after 3 days of using it due to the fact of it not wanting to lock into place even after looking on the leki website. After 2 more weeks we went through some snow and both mine and my wifes poles came apart at the shocking forcing me to push them back together which wasnt sucessful on my pole. I am sorry to return them with high regards that people have put on leki products. Would not recommend this pole but maybe other leki products.
