Took awhile to break in... well worth it

Comments about REI Cushioned Eye Mask and Earplugs Set:

I have a head injury, so to sleep I need total darkness (and quiet) and this is why I use an eye mask. At first I did not like this one because it was on the stiff side. It has a liner in it that makes it a bit inflexible when new. I was going to return it, but I'm glad I didn't because the liner makes it less permeable to light. My experience is the softer eye masks are often more permeable to light through the fabric. After several uses this mask adjusts to where no light comes in through the sides, so its great.

Another thing it is not as warm to sleep in as many of the others. Although on the surface it's also not as cushy and soft as others, even so on the inside it is very nice. With the way these are usually designed the only padding I find essential is the bit they put in under the eyes so your eye lids are not felt pressed on. The design on this mask is exceptional in this regard.

One other thing is that despite it eliminating light it still manages to ventilate so your eyes stay cool and comfy. The mask is large, which is good for me. Also, it does not pick up lint as some others do so it retains a nicer appearance. The elastic is a bit wider as well which adds to the comfort.

I use ear plugs most of the time (soft Hearos) so I didn't try the ones that came with the mask. But the little pocket in the top is a great thing, with the exception that the flap sticks up most of the time, but that is hardly a bother. I've been using it now every night or whenever I sleep during the day for at least three months and it seems to work better as it ages. Just remember, it's a little stiff at first, but overtime it breaks in and works superbly well, at least for me.
