We used these recently to set up clothes lines and and sunscreen when camping though I can imagine many uses for them. They are lightweight and easy to use.

I use it to secure guy lines on my REI Quarterdome T2. It's easy and stays secure. It helps you keep the rainfly taut. Only downside is that it's small and painted black so it's hard to find it at night.

Forty-five-plus years after being a Boy Scout I had to look up my bowline and taughtline hitch knots. The bowline is easy but I still could not get my TLH's to be consistant and pretty. I felt like a real outdoorsy kinda guy again. I was curious about these tensioners and bought four for my tent. They are amazing! But I don't feel as macho as I did when I tied my knots. Oh well...

These are great for tightening down lines on tent flies - once I saw my boyfriend's setup used these, I had to have them -- and they're easy to use/idiot proof.

I'm not a knot person, so I decided to try these out. What a neat little gadget! The alligator end accepts a rope quite simply, and allows you to cinch it down to achieve tension. The other end attaches a loose end of rope using a different method, or it can attach mid-span by pulling a loop of rope through. There are many ways to deploy this device, the included instructions show a few variations.

Best part, no struggling to untie knots! This works great for setting up a clothesline in camp or cinching guy out lines on a tent or tarp.

Price and weight are negligible for the utility.

My first experience with these was with a tarp shelter in the Nevada desert. The tighteners made it very easy to get the rope tensions just right, and they held tight through extremely high winds.

if you are a "knot nazi" then you don't need this. however if you don't mind some help when it comes to knots and lashing then you will love this. it makes setting up your rain/dining fly so easy.
