REI Nikole day bag easily and quickly converts from a mini-backpack to a sling pack for travel and around-town use.

  • Sourced from old plastic bottles, post-consumer recycled PET polyester is tough enough to endure the daily grind and is gentle on the environment

    Someone finally read my mind and made the backpack purse I've been dreaming about. It's cute, stylish, carries a lot inside, with lots of pockets and hidden pockets. And it has two side pockets for waterbottles, etc. which is something I've been looking for in such a bag for a long long time. It's larger than most stylish backpack purses, and yet doesn't look that large. The interior expands well with the large amount of stuff I pack into it without becoming ackwardly balanced. While the shoulderstraps look odd, they work well, feel fine, and don't cut into my shoulders.

      I'm on my third child, and this is the best bag I've found for the loathed and doomed job of carrying baby supplies. It fits everything any mom would need. I can carry my wallet and phone in easily accessible pockets, and stow all the diapers, wipes, clothes, bottles, ointments, and meds I might need. I feel uber-prepared, comfortable, and stlyish for once! Thank you REI!

      This bag is everything and has everything that I was looking for in a travel bag. It looks very small, but my Apple laptop fits perfectly inside. Along with the laptop I was also able to fit two large books, phone charger, brush, makeup bag, water bottles, wallet, iPod, etc.

      Compartments along the back of the bag (are against your back when wearing it as a backpack) is a perfect place for documents (airline tickets and reservations) that you don't want to lose.

      It's more than convenient at Airport security check and the backpack feature lets me worry about getting to where I need to be, rather than fidgeting with a bag. It can double as a purse and is stylish enough to not look dorky wearing it.

      I love this bag.

      I took this and a backpack on a 3 week trip through Kenya, England and Ireland, and it was everything I needed it to be! Perfect plane carry-on (fit books, water bottle, iPod, camera, phone & charger, change of clothes!, snacks, travel docs, & quart-sized ziploc for allowable liquids), easy to monitor in crowded cities (can wear on front without being cumbersome), great pillow subsitute during layovers, and wasn't even out of place at a job interview! Only drawbacks: keychain should be in the big compartment, inside back pocket too small (can't zip with half-sheet papers in it), and open side pocket is silly - accessible to anyone but you while you wear it. If they sell the red one again, the color is more subdued than the website shows. Great bag!

        I was looking for a shoulder bag with convertible backpack straps, and found this. An unusual design, it is more stylish than others I've had, though a bit smaller. Very comfortable to carry (much better than so-called "healthy back" bags) and stiff enough it will stay open while you look for things. Just the right number of pouches. It will just fit an 8 x 11 folder (barely), plus wallet, date book, a paperback or two, and lunch, with room for cell phone and water bottle on the outside. I plan to use it bicycling around town, as a carryon bag for air travel, on day hikes in the mountains, and for overnight trips. Mine is black--I will probably even take it to the opera!

        I think a mom designed this bag as the perfect lite version diaper bag:
        - stylish, functional backpack (finally not an oxymoron!)
        - very stain resistant, wipes easily
        - zippers and pulls VERY rugged (my son plays with them all day)
        - thoughtful external pockets (width adjustable bottle side pocket, anything side pocket, zippered back pocket with key chain hook, zippered pocket against your back - great for valuables)
        - surprisingly high capacity for size

        I do wish the strap lengths would stay in place - it's easy to readjust but it gets annoying. Also, while there are some internal pockets on one side internally, a divider for the main internal compartment would be great! However, I love this bag and could not live without it - everywhere I get stopped by moms wondering where I found this bag. I really think this bag is the reason I was able to avoid situations like locking myself out of my car or losing my cell phone during those crazy first months of mommyhood.

        I have the green, saw it also in beige and burnt reddish colour at the store (didn't see black though). Completely worth the money, I plan to buy another.

          I use this bag every day (work, trips, around town - all of it). 2 small wishes - 1) the inside should be separated into at least 2 compartments [side by side preferably] AND 2) the shoulder strap adjusters slide in the opposite direction than they do at present. Why?? Putting things in the bag is like dropping things into a black hole AND every time I toss the bag over my shoulder I invariably catch the metal slide adjuster and loosen it so that I am constantly shortening it again or the bag drops lower and lower down my back. With those corrections I'd have several colors!!

                I'd been looking forever for a bag that was compact, stylish, and had an interior zipper pocket so my wallet couldn't be easily snatched. This one fit the bill perfectly. I'm 5'1", and it's just the right size for my back. The inside holds way more than it looks like it should be able to hold, and the water bottle holders are very handy. I get compliments on it all the time.
