Comments about ExOfficio Insect Shield Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I used these pants as a the only pair of pants on backpack in the Las Padres National forest near Los Angeles. They were great pants, but started ripping apart whenever I slid down rocks, rock scrambling etc. By the end of the 4 day trip, they were held together with duct tape. I would not describe the abuse as heavy, but light-moderate on rocks. I would not use these pants again for such a trip. The bug repellant feature works great, but I started getting bit through the holes in the knees and seat. Both the back pockets ripped off and left big holes for the mosquitos to get my butt.

The bugs stay away! I found 2 pairs of these on the clearance rack ad used them for a 8 months in Africa and never got a bite. I never wore through them and did hiking and climbing. If you are going to a place with high rates of maliria then you want to wear this line as added protection.

Comments about ExOfficio Insect Shield Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I bought a pair of these along with TNF convertible pants for a week of camping in the Yellowstone backcountry, and although these physically held up better than the TNF pants, I found the insect repellent to be rather ineffective. Maybe I just have sweet, irresistible, delicious blood, but I literally saw plenty of mosquitoes trying to bite me through the pants. There was no discernible insect repellent difference between these pants and the TNF pants.
I eventually returned these to REI, not because they weren't good pants, they just weren't as good as advertised. I ended up getting an REI pair of convertible pants and saving myself the $30 difference.
