Updated and improved, Black Diamond Cosmo headlamp now boasts a brighter beam and greater lighting versatility.
- Two side LEDs and one central 0.5-watt LED throw light a maximum distance of 32 meters, bettering the 21 meters of the original Cosmo
- Streamlined design sets the beam at an efficient illumination angle; ratcheting swivel head aims light where you need it
- Two bright LEDs and single 0.5-watt LED operate independently; switch on top lets you select from low, medium or high lighting levels for each
- Strobe functions for the paired LEDs and the 0.5-watt LED create signaling capabilities
- Water-resistant construction gives full-on reliability in inclement weather

Get a near-perfect blend of price, weight, and brightness in this versatile headlamp, which was entirely redesigned for 2008. It has a 1/2-watt LED for spot uses (like routefinding) and two smaller LEDs for proximity uses (reading or cooking). The spot beam reaches 75 feet, with a piercing bulls eye amid a wider-than-average beam, so you can see side trails and tree-tunnel details. The tilt mechanism is secure enough for scrambling and trail running. Burn time: 120 hours on high, although it dims noticeably after 30 hours.

This headlamp is perfect. It is small and lightweight and fits very comfortably. The spotlight works great, has very good distance and does not break up very much, even when far away. The flood light works great too, perfect for doing anything around camp and plenty bright. In addition to using it outdoors I use it all the time for tasks around the house. All this at a great price, can't be beat!

It is a good bright light; however, I have encountered several problems with it after I had it in my pack while hiking in the rain. It seems to short out all of the time now.
I wouldn't recommend this to someone that was going to be out on a serious backpacking trip. It is not the most reliable piece of equipment in tough elements. Also, it would be nice if you could adjust the focus of the beam...the light is more of a flood light than an actual beam, which is usually fine, but if you are needing to see things a little further out, it isn't the best light.
Great for your average trip, or casual outdoor adventure, but if you are a serious outdoorsman...I would pass on it for a higher end light. A good light is a top priority in the field and losing your only source of light could pose a major problem.

I only used this head lamp 2-3 times and the rest of the time it was in the top of my pack in case of emergency. I took it out the other day and the plastic brackets on both sides had broken off. I was not very hard on this at all. Wonder what I would have done if I needed it in the middle of the woods!

Great value for the light that you get. Just as good or better than some of the more expensive lights.
There is actually 8 different light modes that you can use:
3 levels of floodlight
3 levels of spotlight
and then 1 each of flashing spotlight or floodlight
The default for both floodlight and spotlight is the brightest setting which is what I use most of the time. The only downside to the light is that the brightness definitely decreases as the battery does. I wish it was just as bright after using it for 30 hours, when you have another 30 hours of battery.

This was my first headlight purchase ever. I saw the great review from Backpacker magazine and when I compared it with the other headlamps within it's price point, I liked all the features that I got with the Cosmo.
The spotlight is very bright and as with the flood lights, there are three different intensity settings for both modes including a strobe setting.
The unit itself was very comfortable over a hat/cap/or bare headed. Easy to adjust the angle of the beam on it's plastic pivoting hinge and didn't move at all when walking.
So much better than a hand held flashlight and the flood setting on low is perfect for reading at night in the tent without bothering your tentmate too much.
I'm not entirely sure how it would handle rain, but the unit feels sturdy and the single button feels like it'll last forever. Opening the unit up to view the battery compartment is a bit tricky at first, but once you open it once it won't be a problem. The exposed plastic edges speak towards it's affordability, but not really a big deal since it'll be hidden most of the time. Great buy and really can't beat the price.

This is a great light. I have sued on hikes and it works great on a trail at night. The flood lights are great for around the camp fire, and the spot light works great for reading and finding trails at night. However, I took it caving and it was disappointed that it was night brighter. The flood was good to a point and then I wanted the spot to see more in a specific area and it did not preform as I had hoped. But for [$] it is a good light. I still use it all the time for camping, hiking, and pretty much anything outside, or inside for that matter.
