Comments about Alchemy Goods Urban Messenger Bag:
I actually have the previous version of this bag, so it may be slightly different, but I know that my bag has been my companion everywhere I have gone in the past 3.5 years. I love it, I have taken it everywhere, grocery shopping, traveling, adventuring on my bike, climbing trees, lugging art and supplies around as well as several cameras. I guess the only problem is that it is a bit heavy, but it has never failed me. On top of that, Alchemy Goods is the best company I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. In January I noticed that around where the strap met the rest of the bag, the rubber was cracking. I took my bag into their shop in Seattle, and they not only fixed it, they mailed it to me in Boston, all free of charge. I know that this bag will last me another 3 years, at least.

Comments about Alchemy Goods Urban Messenger Bag:
This bag has let me down. First I have to say the piping (the red bit that goes around the opening) has literally self destructed. It started to fray from maybe the first month and then it just totally strings out from all the way around getting caught in the velcro and looping onto things and catching anything it can. Really it's a tragedy because I wanted to love this bag. Alchemy said they would replace it but unfortunately I can't send the bag back because then I won't have a bag so until something changes I'm stuck with it.
I've tried to like burn the edges of the piping to seal them like you would nylon cord but it just continues to fray. It's almost impossible to take off without greatly disrupting the look of the bag, and possibly the function.
If I could look past that which I was getting ready to do, I noticed the fastener for the shoulder strap does not secure under heavier weights. I'm not talking 50lbs of gear, I'm talking more like nearly 20lbs. A laptop, three notebooks and maybe one text book. It slowly lets more and more shoulder strap out. I've now had to fold the strap in half within the fastener and then secure it, to get it to stay.
Add to all of this that the rubber tubes are starting to crack in many places (which I am not picky about but I know others would be.) I just can't recommend this bag to anyone. If something catastrophic happened I could chalk it up to a one-off incident. But this bag is just showing serious faults as time goes on. I've only had the bag a year as well.
I write this not to slander the product but to notify other customers, as I wish I was notified of these things before I purchased it. I've still given it 3 stars because... it is still a sturdy, rugged water resistant bag that looks cool and has a good design.
