Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Men's:
i absolutely love the fit of this jacket. it instantly became the best jacket i have ever owned; the slim fit was awesome, and the stretchy material made this jacket a perfect fit. i didnt have any trouble with wearing a hoodie underneath. i bought this a couple years ago and to this day have not found a better fit in another jacket...
however...i bought this to replace my old north face gortex jacket. when i saw the 'waterproof' label and high price tag, i assumed this had the same waterproofing ability as my gortex jacket. but i was wrong. i think i made it thru one rainy season around campus and took this on a few camping/climbing trips, after a few months and couple washes, it is longer waterproof. a very very light rain while out on a quick walk with my dog is enough to soak thru my head and shoulders. surprisingly the most waterproof part of the jacket are the stretchy parts.
anyway, i still love to wear this jacket for sytle and to protect me from the wind...but if there is even a hint of rain, i have to resort to my old ragged north face gortex.
never again will i pay that much for a jacket that does not come with the waterproofing that is guaranteed with gortex. i recommend this jacket solely for fit and style, but for anyone who loves the outdoors, be prepared to buy a new raincoat after a month.
dont be fooled by the 'waterproofing' claim, it is not true, buy something with gortex.

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Men's:
I got this jacket on clearance for[$]. The fit is phenomenal. It is not baggy at all but still has just enough room for a wool sweater or fleece underneath. zippers and seams have not leaked and the jacket has lots of adjustments so you can really lock out the elements. The downside as some have mentioned is the waterproofing. It just doesn't last long on the non-stretchy parts (hood, sleeves, shoulders) where you need it most. However, wash-in waterproofing like Revivex brought it right back to like new condition (maybe a little better). Washing the jacket really accelerates the wear!

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Men's:
If you want an absolutely bomb-proof rain jacket, this is it! The waterproofing, stretchability, and breathability are exactly what you'd want in a multi-use jacket, and the comfort is great. The most impressive thing about this jacket is it's ability to take a beating! 14 college students and I took these jackets on several bushwhacking/scramble hikes through thick Chaparral and over rough rocks; and not one of us had a tear! Definitely the most durable piece of clothing I own, REI rocks!

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Men's:
Bought this jacket over 2 years ago. Used it for everything from 24 hr Mtn bike races in rain, hiking in rain, waiste deep powder skiing in Utah, skiing/hiking in VT, backpacking in rain, even golfing in rain. Whenever its raining guess what, I hope and pray I have my Taku jacket. This jacket could be the very best product REI makes. It stretches where it needs to, it breaths well, it repels water incredibly well. I have an old green one that still gets me compliments. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is because it doesnt have an internal pocket. Small gripe but I'm being honest. [...]

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Men's:
I have last years version of this jacket which is really no difference just better water proofing on the zippers. This jacket is amazing and worth every penny. I like that the price is lower now [$] from [$]. I got caught out in a down pour in San Antonio Tx, and I stayed really dry. Jacket really holds up. I take it every time I go camping or even on warmer days to go snowboarding. After washing several times it lost its waterproofing. But with some Nix-wax it brought right back. Jacket fits great and I like the slim fit of it. Pair this jacket with a fleece and your set. The only thing I wish it had was a little better breathability. The hood could use a better design, Its really deep and can be hard to see. Wear it with a hat or a beanie and your setOtherwise this jacket is amazing love it!!!!

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Men's:
This jacket has nice stretchy fabric, I guess that is why the cut is tighter than I expected. It is fairly (but not wonderfully) comfortable, but you can not layer anything underneath. You feel sleek wearing it, but if you put a sweater underneath you feel like the Michelin Man. This is a technical jacket, I've worn it camping and canoing in the rain and it did keep me dry. It is reasonably warm given it has no fleece or insulation -- probably the snugness. The hood also fits very snug, and this drives me crazy. With the hood on I can not hear anything and it pulls down over my eyes so I have a hard time seeing. Not much storage in the pockets (it's tight). There are better rain jackets, I have an REI Ultra Lite and it is much more practical.

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Men's:
Pit zips will disintegrate on contact. They were completely useless after the first time I tried them.
Service and delivery comments:
Service was horrible, REI will not stand behind their products. They admitted the zipper was faulty but would not replace the jacket. I will never buy REI again

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Men's:
I have used this jacket at length in a variety of conditions, from windy but sunny to blizzard and rainy with extreme wind. It never faltered, not once! I have various GoreTex jackets from other manufacturers and to be quite honest I am considering giving them away. The Taku jacket just takes a bashing and comes back for more. Thrutching (English phraseology from climbing on gritstone) in chimneys on the grit has not even marked the back of the jacket. Did I say I'm impressed? Well I am. Thank you REI for making the perfect outdoors jacket.

This Jacket sustained a down poor in Texas, kept me dry wish I had the pants at the time too... Jacket dries out very quickley! Only Con is that I have washed it about 4-5 times and it seemed to loose some of its waterproofing. Doesn't dry out as fast but just bought some Nix Wax!!

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Men's:
I have had this jacket for 2 years. It is still working well. I use it spring, winter, and fall to bike 5 miles to work in Oxford from 20-70 degrees, as well as on many an outdoor excursion and multiple day hikes through weather foul and more foul. I like the jacket because it keeps me warm and not overheated despite biking up hill. Pairs nice with some fleece to keep you warm while active. I have hiked along the czech border in some bad rain, and on a glacier in iceland with harsh winds and sun among other things. For the price I am happy I bought it, though more technical gear exists. Only small complaint is that the hood was built for a neanderthall with a huge brow, and it has a tendency to slip over the top of your vision unless you keep it very tight with the drawstrings. Hard to find a light and waterproof shell that you won't sweat to death when hiking or freeze in some moderate wind. Unlike some reports still not damage to zippers or much in the way of leakage except for true downpours that last many hours, and even then not much worth mentioning.
