Comments about Mountain Hardwear Downtown Coat - Men's:
Wow. What a disappointment. This jacket seemed like it would be perfect, but has VERY little down in it. Sleeves in particular have entire 5" baffles with no down at all. My subjective guess is that this jacket has less than half the amount of down as other competitive products. The filling is supposed to be 650, but with this small an amount of down it would not matter if it were 900. No down is no down, regardless of the quality of the down (that is not there...). The result is that this this about as warm as a nice shell with a heavy cotton shirt underneath. I was actively cold at 40 degrees. You will freeze to death if you try to go into the real outdoors in the winter.Build quality is also disappointing. Elastic cord clips are placed on the wrong side of retaining clips, flap to hide hood zipper is too short to actually cover zipper. Not sure if I got a lemon or if they are all this way, but this one is definitely getting returned. I paid [$] and and would be disappointed in this jacket if I had paid $100. Honestly, I am not sure that I would want it even if it were free. This is an uncharacteristic terrible product from Mountain Hardware - I used to really like this brand.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Downtown Coat - Men's:
For starters this jacket is probably not meant to be used on any intense excursions or to be put under extreme pressure. As the name says "downtown" it is like a commuter jacket that is meant to keep you warm. The Pros of this jacket is that it does live up to its name. It has been used in Chicago and to go downtown and it has kept me warm. It is nice because it doesn't have an obnoxious amount of pockets, looks refined and keeps wind out. Looks good too. The Cons are obviously if you are looking to be a pro adventurer it wont make the cut. Also it says that it is 650 down fill. It is 85% down and 15% feather. The down Mountain Hardwear is also using in this jacket is part Chinese down and part European. If the quality of down is important to you than that is also a con. All in all the jacket does its job if you are looking for a commuter jacket. I like that it has a down hood and the hand warmers. I give it a 4 because i was kinda annoyed that it wasnt fully down.

I use the product in the Central Alaska. So far I have worked and worn this product in -37 with great satisfaction and warmth. I have no complaints what so ever. I am especially grateful for the help I received in the Clackamas Store in selecting all my gear for -50 temperature. She is a professional in gear selection. Thanks

High quality down coat, with an even distribution of the filling leaving no cold spots.
Fits great ,light weight, and packable.
Kept me warm and dry. Highly rcommend to anyone who needs a stylish jacket for handling the cold and wet weather.
The outer shell is waterproof and durable,
and not to stiff like other jacket's I've tried.
There's a discrete single colored MH logo on the chest. Not multicolored, like the picture above.
I'll rate this jacket higher than similar jackets from The North Face and Canada Goose.
Highly recomended !

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Downtown Coat - Men's:
I was amazed how many people drank the Kool-Aid on how this coat is not warm and blah blah blah. To begin, this coat is great for either East Coast or Colorado weather. I've worn this in both. It's ridiculously comfortable, stylish, and can withstand NEGATIVE degree temperatures. Sure, If you really think you need an Everest-style coat because if the Earth freezes you will be OK, well, go spend $800 and buckle up. I am absolutely positive this coat will work for 99% of you (provided it fits). This was a gift, so I can't say the value is $350; nonetheless, I tried on over 20 coats at REI and this one was even nicer than the $300 marmot and all patagonia styles. If you are the layering type, well then of course look elsewhere. I like to layer at times, but not always. I do get swayed via reviews, but go try it on and you will realize most people that agreed with the negative reviews likely never bought one.

I bought this jacket around the end of the winter, early 2009, didn't get to wear it much and really started wearing it during the 2009/2010 winter. I did wish it had a larger inside pocket. It was mostly great, but the zipper would get stuck. The double-ended zipper was a curse, not a convenience, and tended to come apart and/or not zip together properly. After just a couple of months use, the zipper busted, making it useless. I expected to get more than one winter out of it. I'll try to get a tailor to put a new conventional zipper on it, not a double-ended zipper, and maybe I can salvage something from it.

I'm a rock climber and this coat squeezed my armpit in an uncomfortable way. I returned the coat using REI's great return plan.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Downtown Coat - Men's:
I've only had this coat for about a month so far, so I cannot yet make comment on it's durability. But it seems to be very durable and very well made.
It's been my 'everyday coat' since the day I got it. Have taken it snowshoeing over the New Year's weekend and it kept me very warm and cozy with nothing but a short-sleeved merino wool shirt underneath. I love the length (mid-thigh) and have found the 2 way zipper to be very handy (like when it gets a little too toasty, just open up the bottom for some ventilation; or when I'm getting in my car to drive, just unzip the bottom about 6 inches for comfort and freedom).
I read in a product description that the outside pocket on the chest is for an MP3 player and that there is an opening for your earbuds, but i couldn't find it. Not an issue for me, but maybe for some?
All in all, this is by far the happiest I have ever been with a coat. The only thing I would add if I could, would be big storage pockets in front of the handwarmer pockets, but I'm not complaining. By the way, the handwarmer pockets are microfleece lined and super warm and cozy!

I had high hopes when I unboxed my new Mountain Hardwear Downtown Parka this evening. Nice fabric, looks good. Fits well. So I pulled I on and went for a short walk (it's 25 deg F out). What? My arms were cold! How could this be? It's a winter parka with down fill, for crying out loud! So back to the house. I pulled the sleeved inside out and discovered that the baffles are hugs and they are mostly devoid of down.I'm sure that Mountain Hardwear is saving a lot [*]The problem is that the product is junk. It's likely that the goose down is actually duck feathers. Never again. I will never order another Mountain Hardwear product!

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Downtown Coat - Men's:
This would be an incredible jacket if the arms were insulated better. The insulation is extremely light in the arms and sparse. The hood could also use a fuller cut, for, as is, it leaves the face exposed.
