Comments about REI Bullet Bottle - 0.5 Liter:
I compared this to the 0.5 L Zojirushi bottle.
Weight REI bullet- 12.8 oz (364.1 gms)
Weight Zojirushi- 9.9 oz (280.7 gms)
Both of these fit nicely into my Down parka pockets although the Zojirushi is shorter.
I put boiling water into both of these and placed them in my freezer for 5.5 hrs. Final temps after removing REI- 160 F. Zojirushi= 158F
The downside of the Zojirushi is that I am not able to fully push down the bottle button with mittens or cold weather gloves in order to open the top to get liquid out. I was able to use my teeth, but this is cumbersome. However, I can still unscrew the top in order to open it. If you're not concerned about a few ounces, I would go with this bottle and it is cheaper.

Comments about REI Bullet Bottle - 0.5 Liter:
I received this as a gift and, overall, it's a solid product. The inner pour lid is excellent at preventing spills when securely tightened and equally excellent at releasing liquid when loosened, facilitating spills if not seated at a desk. The pour lid is of the turn-to-pour variety; if you're looking for a "drink on the go" thermos, this isn't it. Coffee stays hot for 3+ hours without pre-heating the cylinder. I have two concerns: within a week of use, the glue affixing the metal cap to the plastic cup liner detached, and the paint has begun to chip off (I have the blue model) with only hand-washing and very light use. For daily use (as I use it), preferable would be an unpainted version with a sip-lip/pour valve.

Comments about REI Bullet Bottle - 0.5 Liter:
The thermos provides my daily cup of coffee whether I take the train or ride my bike. It fits well in my backpack or bike panniers. It'll keep the coffee hot for several hours. The thermos will not leak unless you overfill it. Don't over tighten the cup, like I did--the plastic liner will separate from the metal shell. And so the thermos saga began...I exchanged the thermos, but the "new" thermos was defective (it was very hot to the touch after filling it with coffee) and did not retain the heat (vacuum issue). My coffee went cold in an hour, so I exchanged the thermos for the second time, and now life is good. My coffee will now stay hot, and the cup is in one piece.

I carry this in my book bag. It's great. It keeps my coffee hot and it's really sleek and fits in the side of my backpack well.

Comments about REI Bullet Bottle - 0.5 Liter:
One was filled with hot chocolate and the other had Au Ju sauce for French Dip sandwiches. My family was impressed after a total of 6 hours, from both the drive to Mt. Hood and sledding, that we still had a hot meal awaiting us. We don't leave home without them now. I don't use the twist to pour. The instructions did not mention how to just twist to pour. Our coffee maker at home leaks/dribble with that feature. I always take the inner lid off entirely. I haven't had any leak issues or caps peeling or breaking. The sleek design fits in car cup holders and is easy to hold and pour. I don't notice an after taste from storing different liquids. I think they make a wonderful gift for anybody.

Comments about REI Bullet Bottle - 0.5 Liter:
I've been through two of these and both have failed in the same way, with the bottom cap coming off. The first one was mounted to my bike and I'll never forget the ding-ding-ding as the cap went bouncing off down the trail. I took it back to REI and it was replaced. That one went into the bike bag, where the bike lock caused the bottom cap to fall off.
Keeps my coffee hot during a freezing commute, but it can't stay together during the ride. The last one even survived a fall on the ice recently, with some nice skid marks now (the cap was off before that day).

Comments about REI Bullet Bottle - 0.5 Liter:
I bought this bottle because of it's sleek look, small overall profile (perfect to tuck into a pack while snowshoeing), and it's capacity to retain warmth. I quickly found out about two major drawbacks. 1) My inner twist lid will not fully seal to lock the liquid into the bottle...it is always in pour mode. That meant a backpack with 0.5 litres of of hot chocolate in the bottom of it about 30 minutes up the trail. 2) My father came to visit and used it to keep a portion of a pot of coffee warm for my mother since he gets up really early. I hate coffee, but now my bottle still smells like coffee (to be more specific, the bottle does not retain odors but the inner twist lid definitely does)...you may be ok with that but I was not. And then there is the other thing about the plastic portion of the outer lid/cup which has come loose from the stainless steel portion...kind of annoying. In reading the other reviews, it looks like most of these problems are hit or miss so I am going to exchange mine and give it another try...but I'm going to check the one in the store with some water before I buy and then keep my dad away from it. Could be a great bottle but production appears to be inconsistent at best. Recommend if you don't mind returning a few to find one that actually works properly.

Whether in the great outdoors or in the dreaded cubicle, this cannister seems to rise to the occasion. It leaks neither fluids nor temperature. And the lid holds an appropriate sipping volume. One of our favorite REI brand purchases.

Great product.[...].The only cons that I can find so far are that the REI logo is wearing off / melting off and is getting sticky when I put my fingers over it. . I am also afraid that it might stain my backpack/cloth. I am thinking about completely scratching it off or maybe put some tape over itI have been using for 3 weeks now. It is great, no leakage. I wish they made one in btw the 0.5 and 1 liter. Note that it is not 0.5liter but 0.47L which kind of pisses me off since I wanted a 0.5l to hold 16oz fluid without nearly overflowing my bottle. The bullet keeps my fluid warms from 8am to the middle of the afternoon. The only thing I worry about is the content going bad (i.e. milk/latte)

I bought this thermos to keep my coffee hot on my commute every morning - I used to use travel mugs, but after 20 minutes outside in the cold, plus the metro ride, my coffee would be tepid, at best. This thermos has been great - keeps coffee hot for hours after I get to work, plus I can just carry it in my bag, without it taking up too much extra space. It's never leaked. I haven't taken it hiking yet, but I'm sure it will hold up for that as well.
