Work great for me!
I ride about 6 miles to and from work every day (12 total), including some fairly nasty hills. While I can't justify coughing up the money for new pedals and specialty shoes, I wanted something to help with my power on those hills and these fit the bill. They really weren't that hard to install on my basic default pedals (I have a 15+yo Gary Fisher mountain bike). I'm confused about the issues people had installing it due to problems with reflectors, because I didn't have to touch the reflectors--I just installed these on the other side of the pedals. Perhaps my pedals are better suited, but they're nothing special either. Either way, I recommend them and would buy again!
Very versatile, safe, and easy to use
I have used these toeclips for five months now, they are extremely versatile. I can wear my casual work shoes while biking to work, and wear my hiking shoes on camping trips, allowing me to bike and hike anytime. I also wear my cross-training shoes (every day sport shoes) while biking on mtb trails as easy as just riding to the local supermarket. In summary, these toeclips add efficiency to your peddling motion. At the same time it allows versatility - you can wear any pair of shoes, in any occasion, and any terrain. No longer restricted to just bike shoes and specific clips. To top it off, these toeclips are affordable.
Excellent, except one thing
I bought these clips about 2 months ago, and they still are working great. They are exactly what i need; something to keep my foot in place when i pedal hard. I have stepped on them too and they do not break. The only reason I do not give these clips 5 stars is because when you are not pedaling the weight of the clip will turn the pedal straight up and down. I go through some heavy technical maneuvers and i need to take my foot out to rest so I do not topple over. And trying to put my foot back into the slot on an incline is very hard to do. I have gotten used to it, but it is still a pain when i want to power up the hill and i cannot get my foot in properly.
I dig these toe clips!
I use these clips on my commuter which is a Flip Flop that I run fixed the majority of the time. I wanted a clip to help keep my foot from slipping off the pedal and to increase efficiency. These were perfect cause I don't like the straps that are common with Toe Clips. Why do I use toe clips rather than the more popular pedals commonly used? I just like wearing the sneakers that I am accustomed to wearing. I am a commuter and that is just what is more convenient for me. These are really strong, and after some practice your foot will slip right into them without any problem. I am getting a second pair for another bike.
Had to return them back to stor
These toeclips actually surprised me in a good way. I had relatively low expectations from a [$] part, but they overall worked out pretty well. They are definitely not designed for heavy uphill pulling, but they definitely improve the pedaling experience for average speed city commuting. Assembling them was a little bit challenging but definitely doable. Eventually I had to return them back to the store, because the plastic part of the clip popped out of the screw that holds it tight to the pedal frame. The manufacturer needs to add four metal washers to ensure that the plastic part stays fastened tightly or they should provide screws with wider head.
Not compatible
Ordered these for my commuter bike, wanting to increase efficiency/power but still be able to wear normal shoes and not have to get special pedals and cleats. These clips do not come with any instructions on installation, and although it seemed straightforward from what's in the package, they did not fit the pedals of my bike at all. The holes on the clips did not align with the holes in my pedals, and I wasn't willing to try drilling holes as suggested by another reviewer. Also, I tried to put shoes in them (not attached to my bike), and the shoes I would want to ride them in didn't fit. [...]
excelent!
I am both old and old school and have never been able to let go of the straps. Recently threw a bearing in a pedal on my mountain bike and had to replace, while I was at it I hesitantly replaced the old straps with these toe clips. Just got in from my first 25 mile ride with them and absolutely love them!! They are flexible enough to fit my bike shoes and sneakers yet strong enough for pulling the hills. Very easy to get in and out of. Best $5 I have ever spent in 50 years of cycling....if you don't count baseball cards on the spokes!
Exactly what I needed
I'm somewhat of a chicken. While I'm mountain biking if I'm starting to fall over I want my foot off the pedal pronto! These work great! Easy in, easy out. Good power transfer (though I'm sure not as great as clipless). My Keen Targhee's did not work well with them as Keen's tend to have a fat toe. My running shoes (Nike's) and my trail runners (Salomon's)fit great in these. Triathlete's will save some time during transition since you don't have to change from bike shoes to running shoes. These are GREAT!
Inexpensive and Awesome
These clips are great! They're really easy to install, and I immediately noticed a difference in my ride. I was concerned at first that they would be too flimsy to really transfer any power because my last clips did nothing if the straps weren't tight enough, but they are pretty rigid and hold up very well on the upswing. For [$], you CANNOT beat it.These clips would be great for a commuter or a casual triathlete who doesn't want to invest in clipless and/or change shoes during transition.
Nice Clips but one small problem
Bought these for my wifes P5 Scott Hybrid and even though there is one small problem with them I will buy another pair for my P5 Hybrid when it arrives at the store. The problem with these toe clips is that the holes in the metal mounting plate is too small to snap the pedal reflectors back in. I know what some people are thinking..."Just use some force wimp" I'm a pretty solid guy and I did put force into it, to the point the push snaps on the reflector started to break. One can clearly see the difference in size of the mounting hole and the gauge of the reflector snaps. Not too big of a deal though, I am going to try to drill the hole out just a hair. Besides that little problem they are a great toe clip that goes on easy (except for the reflector) and is really sturdy unlike those that have the strap. Great product for cost.
