Comments about PMI Spire Half & Half 10.2mm x 60m Dry Rope:
I used this rope for about 6 months, where the majority of that was sport climbing in a gym twice per week. This rope saw very limited outdoor use, until it finally developed two coreshots about 10 meters from one end. This happened on a climbing trip to Moab, and several very experienced climbers nearby inspected the rope after the failures were discovered. All agreed that none of the conditions that could have caused this to happen actually occured. All recommended contacting PMI to help determine the cause of the failures. Contacting PMI went nowhere. First they asked for pictures, which I took and emailed. Then they replied that the failures appeared to be due to a "rigging issue", which was never explained, especially as they instructed me to retire the entire rope. After I kept bugging them they instructed me to return the rope to REI, [...]When I had it I liked it. It fed smoothly, had a really good feel, and the sheath was durable--right up until it got two coreshots, 6 months into use, with no clear precipitants. I'll never buy another.

Comments about PMI Spire Half & Half 10.2mm x 60m Dry Rope:
Nice rope with many positives, one of the positives being dual weave patterns. The difficult thing with this dual weave rope is that the two weave are so similar that in bright sun or low light conditions the mid-point is not as easy to find as many other dual weave ropes I've used.

Comments about PMI Spire Half & Half 10.2mm x 60m Dry Rope:
I've had this rope in service now for two years and today it retires, finally. This is by far the worst rope I have ever used for pig tails. No matter what belay device this rope knots terribly! Due to this unfortunate circumstance it has been used little in the last year.
This rope also seems to attract dirt, or perhaps it just sheds it poorly. My partner and I have used it side by side many times with my Mammut and Blue Water ropes and it has returned far dirtier than any other rope.
With all this being said, the rope has been quite durable. It's been on two week long trips to Smith and returned unscathed. The two tone bit is nice though somewhat hard to see in low light or glare. If you can get the twists out it flows nicely. It also is one of the easier ropes I've used to untie after a hard hit.
