Comments about Big Agnes Big House 4 Tent:

This is a decent tent. It's not going to knock your socks off but it does the job. Two people and a greyhound fit very comfortably. I'd assume four people would be just fine.
For some reason this tent has an attached welcome mat that I find irritating. It doesn't quite stake out perfectly and will collect a nice puddle of water if it rains.
On a recent trip it rained overnight and the tent took in a small but measurable amount of water.
Otherwise, it's been out for a few adventures so far in the Oregon/Washington woods and it's doing just fine.

Comments about Big Agnes Big House 4 Tent:

We purchased two of these for our family of five since our girls are getting older (and bigger!). We camp 3-4 times per summer and I found that setting up two of these is easier than one large 7 or 8 person tent. The best part about this tent is the ventilation! We had a Kelty Mantra-7 prior to these and the Kelty became more and more difficult to set up (pole tension), construction was poor and the ventilation was even worse, which we found out during a recent camping experience in Northern Minnesota when it rained yet it was still very hot! We had to keep the rainfly on and it was like sleeping in a steam bath! The Big Agnes allows you to roll up the sides of the rainfly for ventilation and a 360 degree view, which can only be explained as awesome!

Comments about Big Agnes Big House 4 Tent:

We got this tent last year when we moved back to Oregon from the Midwest. I wanted to show my two children the fun I had camping as a kid out here in the Pacific NW. Since they have never done any backpacking, I started them out with car camping.

We took about 12 trips in the early spring thru the late summer. The tent held up very well!! We even got stuck in a week of rain and it wasn't until the last night that the tent started to leak. The trick is to extend the fly out and stake it down well, and the moisture will keep away.

The height of the tent allowed us to stand up very well, even with a latern hanging from the top, and the ventilation is great, even with the fly on. The tent is so easy to put together that it is now my 8 year old son's main responsibility to put together while my 6 year old daughter organizes the inside. It is lightweight and comes in a handled, folded bag which makes it incredibly portable and easy to carry. The only complaint is the poles, which can bend easily if you put to much pressure on them when folding or unfolding them.

Otherwise than this, it is a great tent to go out with and to introduce your kids to the fun of camping!!

Comments about Big Agnes Big House 4 Tent:

We use this tent for car camping with our dog. Since we are big people (6'1 and 6'6) and have a big dog (german shepherd), space and height are really important to us. We fit our gear, a big double sleeping pad, and the dog with all her stuff easily in this tent. I can stand up in it and the husband can almost stand up. Got the chance to test it during a bad thunder & wind storm up in Utah and it barely moved and didn't leak (we had staked in the extra guy-lines for the fly which helped). It's pretty easy and quick to set up after the first time. As for that annoying "welcome" mat, we just tucked it under the tent and didn't use it.

Comments about Big Agnes Big House 4 Tent:

This tent is just what I was looking for. I have been using a two person four season tent for years. And finally got tried of lying down to put my clothes on. I do mostly car camping so this tent is the bomb. I use two cots and have three dogs. I can stand up in the center to put clothes on. I looked at the REI 4 person tents but they were to big. With a larger tent you might have trouble finding a campsite to fit other tents.

Comments about Big Agnes Big House 4 Tent:

I specifically bought this tent for Airventure at Oshkosh, WI, a gathering of airplanes each year where hundreds of campers camp "under the wing". After using my backpacking tent there, it made sense to have more comfort and room for several continuous days of such camping.

Wisconsin in late July and August is humid and hot, and occasionally rainy. This tent has amazing ventilation, with or without the fly snapped down. I also hung a tent fan/light (there's a loop in the tent for it), which also added to comfort.

I also have the vestibule, which takes care of others' comments about the welcome mat, because the mat doesn't get rained on with the vestibule in place. The mat is sort of silly--it doesn't seem to keep grass and dirt out of the tent, but it's cute.

I had Big Agnes make me a cover for the skylight, to reduce the sun infiltration and heat, out of the same material as the fly, which is velcroed into place. I think the skylight is generally unnecessary and superfluous, but I suppose it might bring in welcome warmth in the early Spring or late Fall. Otherwise I prefer to leave the cover on.

This tent is very well constructed of quality materials, and it is extraordinarily well engineered, with a lot of really neat details, such as the storage pockets along the sides. It's a little pricey compared to other tents of the same size, but in my view, it is worth it.

For car camping, airplane camping, or beach camping, I can't imagine a better tent.

Comments about Big Agnes Big House 4 Tent:

I have always been something of a minimalist, but with my friends and I getting a little older a bigger tent that we could stand up in was in order.

I have been using a very high quality backpacking tent for 14 years and wanted similar quality in a bigger tent.

My primary use has been for canoe tripping. The BH4 is not as bulky or heavy as other tents in it's size range, and the added comfort was worth what it gives up in compactness.

The big House 4 is very roomy, has great ventelation, and most people can stand up in it with no problem.
It is also quite sturdy. We had two days of high winds (gusting well into the 30mph range and on occasion the low 40's) on our last trip and the BH4 had mo problems with it as all. We were even hanging our sleeping bags up inside of it during the day (nice to have a tent tall enough to do that in sometimes).

It stayed dry in some heavy rains as well. The real bonus of the BH is the vestibule. We set the tent up with one side of the vestibule open and were able to sit in chairs with the wind blocked for us, as well as sorting wet gear from the days activeties before entering the tent.

This is a very high quality tent that was well thought out and then made bigger.

Comments about Big Agnes Big House 4 Tent:

Just got this tent and loved how the tent was organized and how setup was easy for the first time. The only downside to the tent is the front welcome mat. A nice feature, but it would be good to tuck between the tent and footprint if rain is expected. We got rained on and rainwater pooled around the front because of the mat. Other than that the tent is great, roomy with plenty of ventilation.

Comments about Big Agnes Big House 4 Tent:

Purchased the tent, vestibule and footprint. Have used all three items in two HEAVY downpours, and once in heavy winds...The footprint trapped 6-10oz of water between itself and the tent one time (due to unlevel ground and user error NOT because of the equipment design). Each trip I take makes me happier and happier with Big Agnes and their tent. Only CON I have is the "Welcome Mat" not sure it is really necessary.

We've only used it once, but like it so far. The headroom and ventilation are major pluses, as well as the two doors. The same material is used on the floor as the sides and it feels a bit lightweight, as though it could tear. We just bought patch kits and are hoping for the best.
