by fromClose, but not quite This is close to a great bag, but the design flaw is that there is not enough reinforcement just above the bottom (as seen when standing on end on its wheels). In two trips, it was torn and badly abraded twice. The first time I figured just bad luck, but the second gash was over an inch long. On the same trip, I had a much cheaper, lighter bag, which was fine, because it was designed to protect from wear and tear. This bag is probably great if you're not going to fly. In any rate, it's pretty heavy for checked luggage, unless you are flying business with higher weight limits! (Easy to make it too heavy for coach, I had to watch it!)

by fromPoor handle The top part of handle came off during Air travel. No sign of abuse by airline. I think bad handle. Without top part of handle the handle will not extend and the screws that were designed to hold thetop in place are now exposed. Hazard. About 4 flights and the [$] bag is in the trash.

by fromGreat Bag, But could use some durability Great bag, TONS of space. Compression straps are fantastic if you're not fully packed. However, durability is an issue. I use this bag 1-2 times per month for business travel, and after 3 or 4 uses, it developed a hole by the bottom 'loop' handle. It seems that the loop will fold under, towards the wheels and create a rub point right at the fabric. It then creates a hole. I recently had to return it after a trip, in which one of the wheels broke off, into the bag. Seems the plastic piece the wheels are mounted to is not a continuous, strong piece, to support the weight. Because of that, the wheels are susceptible to breaking, and the bag is also prone to tipping over when standing up (as there's no 'base' to support anything. Good bag, once they figure out how to strengthen it.

by fromOversize for airlines! As others have noted, be careful! This bag is oversize based on most airlines' stated size limit of 62 inches (L+W+H). It's 65 inches. Maybe you'll slip through, maybe you won't. But if they get you, it's an oversize bag fee, which can be $50 or more. It's a very nice bag for what it is: a rolling duffle. Good sized, well built, priced competitively. I love REI luggage because of their great warranty service. If you plan to fly with your bag and you have a few extra $$, invest in the REI TechBeast. It's exactly 62 inches ("legal" size) and actually has a bigger stated capacity (300 cubic inches more) that the Wheelybeast. We have two TechBeasts and have back them right up to the 50# airline limit and have had no problems with them over multiple trips. Very well designed.

by fromGreat for Long Vacations! We took it on our trip to New Zealand and it was great; plenty of room for our warm and cool weather clothes! I love the separate zip top compartment; it's great for dirty clothes. It does have some mesh zip pockets, but I would like more. You might buy some extra mesh compartments to store socks, etc so they don't get lost in the bag. I love it; it's a beast of a bag!
