Comments about REI Ultra Light Jacket - Women's:
I bought this jacket to replace a really old Marmot jacket and took it to Europe expecting it to be a good rain coat. I had no reason to think otherwise considering I've loved every other REI product I've ever owned.
I was sadly mistaken. The jacket had previously done well in drizzle and snow and I was left unprepared for what happened next. I had just a few days in Switzerland but one of the first nights it full on rained and my jacket got completely soaked. A little bit of water beads on top of the fabric but apparently actual rain proved to be too much. The fabric became saturated and eventually the fleece I had on underneath was saturated too. I was really cold and really miserable. As soon I had a chance I turned it back in at a store and bought a Marmot Precip which I'm very happy with.
This is the only REI product I've EVER been disappointed with.

Comments about REI Ultra Light Jacket - Women's:
[Caveat: I have a version of this jacket from a season or so ago. It appears the same except for the sleeve pocket.]
This is a great jacket for light rain and carrying on day hikes as a precaution. But I have gotten soaked when I've worn it in downpours. The first time it happened, I thought I was just getting it sweaty from the inside. The other day, however, I put it on when I was dry. In a heavy rain, my shirt and fleece underneath got wet almost immediately. It seems worst along the sleeves, especially the forearms -- these took overnight to dry out. For some reason, the shoulder and torso fabric, as well as the hood, worked better (worth noting: I have not washed this jacket or subjected it to conditions that would corrupt the coating). And it was a good windbreaker, keeping me warm as the temperature dropped. It's an attractive jacket and handy to have around, but I can't rely on it in the backcountry or in extreme weather.

Comments about REI Ultra Light Jacket - Women's:
I have had this for a full year and have used it pretty heavily (casual biking, day hikes, weekend camping). It still looks and acts brand new. Packs down pretty small too, and comes with a stuff sack. There are several features that I couldn't do without now: the zippered chest pocket is perfect for your ID, chapstick, and even as much as a couple granola bars so you don't have to reach into your pack. I use the pit zips ALL THE TIME. They help you cool down quickly and unzip easily with one hand, if you're biking for example. The drawstring around the waste comes in really handy. The detachable hood is also a nice feature, though the drawstrings don't keep it tight too well. The jacket blocks wind extremely well! I have worn it in weather as cold as 25 degrees with just a fleece beneath it, and it has kept me warm even in the wind. It's also just very comfortable. The main drawback is that I can't count on it in the rain. It keeps me dry in snow or light rain for about the first two hours, and then the moisture seeps through. I have never been completely drenched in it, but damper than I want to be even on a short hike. Still, if you have a better rain jacket, you can't do any better than this for a wind breaker, especially for the price.

I bought this for a trip to Ireland and the U.K. and it really was perfect! I got stuck in rainy weather at Newgrange and it kept me wonderfully dry waist up- next I will have to get rainpants because I was soaked from the hips down. Thanks for a great product!

I love the Ultra Light jacket as my primary rain coat. I like that there are a variety of colors and that it compacts into its own bag, which is great for travel. It has good pockets, the chest one is really handy. It also breathes well, especially when you use the armpit vents (which is handy for running in the rain).

Spending 2 weeks in an Alaskan fall-you're bound to see all the seasons in one day. From the glaciers to the coastline, to the rain...this jacket was lightweight, fit in my pack, and comfortable enough to layer...what you want to you are hiking. Not a drop soaked through, and I can still use it is the city on our rainy days.

Comments about REI Ultra Light Jacket - Women's:
This lightweight, waterproof jacket goes on every trip I take. It is perfect when it is rainy or windy out on the trail. The pockets and hood are great features. Fully lined seams keep moisture out while pit zips help when you start to sweat and need to get cool air in. This jacket also washes extremely well; even when thrown in the washing machine muddy and seemingly stained, it seems to come out looking like new.

This jacket is great and they keep coming out with better colors! I rarely use the armpit zips but it's good to have them when I need them. There are tons of pockets. I can wear it biking over a tank top and it blocks wind and rain in warm weather, or over a jersey for fall/spring weather, and even over my monkey fleece in freezing cold weather and snow! Comfy fit. Packs small.
