Comments about REI Travel Down +45 Sleeping Bag:

Different than "Call Me Cate" from San Fransisco as listed before me, (since I must have bought her sleeping bag return at an REI garage sale here in St. Louis for just [$]...wow!), I think the product is great for the price I paid for it. Many people are not aware that when one buys a bag rated for a particular degree, one can only expect to keep from freezing to death while sleeping at that temperature - on a proper pad that will insulate against the ground cold, (Someone with a normal metabolism, that is). It doesn't mean that you'll be warm as toast. In other words, this bag will feel comfortable when you go to sleep in temperatures of 55 to 60 degrees or so, and, during the night, if the temperature drops to 45 degrees, you'll wake up the next morning and you won't be suffering from hypothermia...or death! When you buy any sleeping bag, figure all the elements you'll use it in. I personally have several bags, in various rating from from as low as -20 to +50. You have to use your head. This bag is a good mid spring, summer and very early fall bag. It packs down to almost nothing and it's very light. However, in the fall, find something else or use it as a liner.REI equipment is, as a rule, very good stuff. And, different than other places, if you don't like it, they will take it back. What I will say, however, is that it is too expensive at the list pricing of [$] for what it offers. Wait for a sale or use a coupon, or, apply the money to a bag suited for your purpose.

Comments about REI Travel Down +45 Sleeping Bag:

This is a good bag for the price, but it really should not be rated down to 45 degrees. It was great for backpacking: a lightweight, warm weather bag, stuffed fairly well, and I like how it opens up fully (since we ended up using it as a bottom sheet). I used it in the San Jacinto State Park in Southern California, where it got down to about 58 degrees the first night. I am normally not cold and almost always were very minimal clothing to bed as I am usually warmest that way. Even wearing shorts and a t-shirt, I had to put warm wool socks on and still froze all night. I was forced to ask my partner to share their bag the next night to keep warm. This is a good HOT weather bag, but in cool weather falls WAY short.

Great for Hostelling, or summer camping

Comments about REI Travel Down +45 Sleeping Bag:

This backpack is perfect for someone who is Hostelling through Europe, or for ultralight summer backpacking.

This is definitely NOT a three-season sleeping bag. It's just not that warm. But, it is very light, comfortable, and a great value.

I am just a hair under six feet tall. Unfortunately, I found the bag to be a little bit short. Regular length is best for those who are 5' 11" and under.

Comments about REI Travel Down +45 Sleeping Bag:

Since 60% of down on top--learn to sleep on your back or temp rating may only be 50-55 degrees. Would rather see ALL down on top w/sleeve on bottom for pad--like Big Agnes Pitch Pine. Still--good quality and value.

Comments about REI Travel Down +45 Sleeping Bag:

I love REI, but I was very disappointed with this bag. It's very flimsy with no fluff. I don’t think it’s rated correctly, as there is no way this bag will keep me warm in 45+ degree temperatures. The stitching looks like it is homemade. I am returning this bag. Of course REI customer service was very helpful, and that’s great, but I really prefer to get a quality product and save myself the call to make return arrangements!

Comments about REI Travel Down +45 Sleeping Bag:

Since 60% of down on top--get use to sleeping on your back--hence down underneath useless. Wish ALL down would be on top (warmer) w/sleeve for pad underneath--like Big Agnes Pitch Pine. And make the segments SQUARE instead of triangles. Still, well-made bag with full zipper for use as quilt.

Comments about REI Travel Down +45 Sleeping Bag:

Nice Down sleeping bag for the money. The bag is a little cool for 45 degrees, but for summer backpacking it is fantastic, especially for the sale price I got it for. It is not as nice as my wifes Kilo Flash 35, but for half the money I cant complain. I must admit down bags that cost more are much fluffier/softer, more pleasing to look at and they feel "heavenly".
For light and fast backpacking, this bag is a good value I think.
This bag packs small and is very light. Best of all, it is a little more roomy and it unzips all the way so you can just get under it like a quilt on those warm nights with legs and feet out to keep cool.

Comments about REI Travel Down +45 Sleeping Bag:

I'm a cold sleeper, so I bought this bag to use as a liner for my three-season bag. Since I got it, I've been toasty warm on all of my spring and fall trips, and I've also had a chance to use it alone on warmer trips. It packs smaller than a fleece liner and (I think) provides more extra warmth.

Comments about REI Travel Down +45 Sleeping Bag:

I took this bag out for the first time in late September. Wow, this thing is great. As others have said it's super lightweight and very small. The weather forecast for the area we were in said the lows were at 56 and we were at a much higher altitude than where the report came from. I'd say it was closer to 50 and I slept snug in boxers only.

I don't know if I'd pay the MSRP on this one, but if you wait around another great sale might pop for it.

Comments about REI Travel Down +45 Sleeping Bag:

I used this bag, for the first time, on a three-day hike through the swamps of Florida in January. When the temperature dropped below fifty, I was freezing. I had to add additional layers of clothing on just to stay warm. This bag would be great for the summer. However, it was not nearly warm enough, even for a Florida winter hike.
