      Comments about REI Thermo Glove/Mittens:

So perhaps you have cute little driving gloves. Maybe you have a big old pair of choppers (clunky leather covered mittens). You might even try to just tough it out by shoving your hands in your pockets--frostbite anyone? Instead of each of these incomplete options, why not get hand protection that will take care of 90% of what you'll encounter in the bitter winter?

I wear these Thermo Mitten/Gloves almost all winter long up here in Minnesota and the versatility of having the "convertible" mitten just makes too much sense. By keeping your fingers all packed together you keep them all cozy warm when you're trudging around the frozen winter tundra. When you need a little manual dexterity, you can flip back your mitten soft-top to get the work done and then hide those digits before they turn blue! REI even included a little convertible top for your thumb. At first I thought this was a mistake, but it's proven very helpful to be able to have actual thumb to finger when working with small objects (perhaps this was intended for ice fishing).

The only thing to keep in mind is that the gloves are made from polar fleece. If you go dunking your hands in the frozen lake water or take on some neighborhood munchkins on in a snowball fight, water will find it's way to your fingers. I personally have no problem with this--if REI had made these from a modern water impregnable material it would have significantly raised the price.

Buy these mitten/gloves and then laugh at the guy who's fingers are moving all slow because he's bare-handing the ice-scraper or he's wearing his Jack Nicholson wannabe driving gloves that just aren't going to cut it below 30F.

Great when I run and the temp climbs a bit, just open the glove and it's cooler. Works good as the wind chill factor can be a bit intense. The fit is pretty tight, but it works for me.

            Comments about REI Thermo Glove/Mittens:

I have trouble finding gloves that fit my hand. My hand is ex-large in size, mainly because of length. when I put on the ex-large sizes in these gloves they were perfect for me. I wore them to hunt with this past year, and my hands never got cold. I have always in the past had cold hand while hunting, so this was a first.

            Comments about REI Thermo Glove/Mittens:

I work outside at lot, and these gloves have been fantastic for work. I bought these over a year ago because I needed some warm gloves that I could wear while writing field notes.
They are not waterproof, but if you aren't actually holding things that are soaked, your hands will stay reasonably dry in light rain. They wash easily and dry out next to the car defroster fairly fast.
Although these gloves fit me perfect, I do have long slim fingers. I would recommend buying a size up if you are a man or are a woman with particularly wide fingers.

            Comments about REI Thermo Glove/Mittens:

Definitely felt tight and small in my regular size and the thumb web might be too tight for some (perhaps why at least one reviewer could not get a size to fit). Otherwise is well made and warm. Suggest getting a larger size than normally wear.

            Comments about REI Thermo Glove/Mittens:

I use these for walking the dogs, scraping the ice and snow off of my car, shopping and basically everything else that requires me to be out in the cold and still be able to use my fingers. They are brilliant. Granted, you don't have as much dexterity as you would with bare hands, but if you want to freeze or keep taking your gloves off and putting them on again, feel free! I prefer using these. They keep my hands warm while allowing me to take the caps off and use my fingers. I've also never seen the thumb feature on these types of gloves before and that's a real bonus! Makes things even easier. I wouldn't want to go without them again.

It is a good concept, but a poor design. I usually wear a Medium, but had to buy an Extra-Large. Still, they felt bulky and tight. I found similar designs that worked much better.
