Best Blister prevention for hiking

Bodyglide can be used directly on your feet to prevent blisters. I use it this way, and to me it is indispensable. Bodyglide was recommended in "Fixing your Feet" a book on how to maintain your precious feet in high use activities such as marathon running, cycling, multiday / section / thru- hiking, etc Otherwise, I'd never think to use it this way. I had thought it was just for runners to put on their inside thighs to curb chafing. At any rate, having tried everything from sock liners, duct tape, moleskin, veterinary super glue, a foot wrap technique used by special forces, talc, I've found the only thing that works. The ultimate solution (for me) is to thoroughly dry the skin of the complete foot with a towel or bandana, treat skin with talc, then apply the Bodyglide lightly on all areas of the foot and liberally on the areas that are prone to hotspots or blisters. Once I started doing this, I was able to jump from 10-12 miles per day to 16-18 without incurring any damage to my feet beyond the bruising impact of over-weighted footfalls (37lb pack). Bodyglide is now a staple in my pack. People on the trail look at me funny, but I hiked half of the co trail without a blister, starting with only a few short hikes of <6 miles for preparation so I didn't begin with callouses but tender feet.

Great product, but can we talk about packaging?

First off, I really like body glide, very helpful when running or cycling. That said, I regret buying it online. I really wish that both REI and body glide would rethink the clamshell packaging that they ship it in. Plastic waste remains a huge ecological problem and one would expect a brand like REI to do a better job in requiring their suppliers to avoid them. Unfortunately, this makes me rethink buying items like this online, since I am unable to make an informed choice about buying an item packaged like this.

Got on whim...grateful that I did!!

Never heard of it before and then noticed it on a rack at REI. I originally got it for my son to take to Scout camp three years ago. He was a bit overweight at the time and so his thighs rubbed together to form an extremely painful rash between his legs--to where he literally could not walk. He put this on over the course of a day and the inflammation subsided. It required several applications. He noticed positive results almost immediately, and by the next day it was as if he returned to normal. I use it any time there is skin irritation. Just put it on the hot spots, and no blisters form or rash burn--feet, hands, skin, neck, anything. No hype here...does exactly what it says it will do. Fantastic stuff!

KAYAKERS USE IT TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never go on a kayak expedition without it!!! Sounds gross but my armpits get raw from paddling on long trips. The sweating and rubbing of fabric can make life unbearable. This product is a protective layer and preserves the skin and has no odor. I paddled one time without it, forgot it, and was hating life. Any friction problems walking, running, or paddling will be loved by all. There are no drawbacks other than not having it when you are in great pain or discomfort. Buy it and thank me later!!!!

Only regret - not finding this sooner!

As several others have mentioned, this product is *amazing* for those of us with friction issues (chafing, blistering, etc.). I choose shoes for comfort and function, but even with a good breaking in, I often had a problem with tearing open my heels (up at the Achilles). For years, my solution was to use the 'extra tough' bandaids, but there were issues with that too; the skin is delicate and would sometimes be hurt by removing the super aggressive adhesive. I also had issues with the top of my toes rubbing (even with Keens, which also help significantly). No more! I just run this stick over any area that could possibly become a concern, and then I'm worry free. This is an absolute 'must' item in my kit - Glide, sunscreen, bug spray...adventure ready!

Excellent Product! Especially for Women

Excellent product! Not greasy, very light, lasts for hours without having to reapply. Can be used to prevent blisters, rubbing of materials (cuffs, bra straps, sandals, wetsuits, etc) or for women, it is perfect to apply between thighs to prevent chafing when wearing a skirt without stockings or tights. I use it all summer long and just need to apply it once in the morning. Highly recommend!!

Passport, Tickets and BodyGlide!

Seriously, if you chafe or blister when you walk, you need this stuff. I can't iron a shirt without blistering and I can get a blister just walking to the airline departure gate and that can ruin a week trip to Paris if you intend walking when you get there. This stuff has saved me more times than I like to think. I buy them 3 at a time and use them everyday. Now I can walk like 'normal' people and enjoy things I never could before.

"I keep this in my purse at all times"

I initially bought this product to use for a weekend of sight-seeing and museum hopping in Washington DC over 2 years ago. I can walk miles in heels, but not without serious discomfort and blisters at the end of the day. The chafing stick allows me to spend an afternoon or evening in my "girly shoes" blister free! Upon sharing this information with my girlfriends, who also often opt for fashion over comfort, we discovered how well this works under bra straps. Months later I finally used this while camping/hiking and have since discovered it is perfect under the straps of my Chaco's. Rafting on the Colorado River in wet shoes would have normally left my heels red and irritated, but I used this each morning and I had no redness or discomfort on my heels, while others in my group were blistered and found it painful to walk the next morning. But the best use I've discovered thus far, and there are many, is for a family member who is on oxygen 24 hours a day. The cannula she wears under her nose and behind the ears was irritating her skin. I looked everywhere for a product to prevent the red welts she awoke with every morning. The BodyGlide anti-chafing stick is the only product that has worked. She applies it under the nose, accross the cheeks, and behind the ears, (any place the cannula sits against her skin). While recently in the hospital both doctors and nurses commented on how great the product worked and wanted to know where to buy it - I happily told them REI. Perhaps BodyGlide should consider marketing their product to the medical community. Other friends and family now use this while wearing a cpap mask for sleep apnea as well.

Vacation-saver

I bought this in preparation for a long trip to California and Arizona that involved lots of walking and hiking in hot weather. This product completed eliminated chafing, was not greasy, not scented, and did not mark clothes. I only needed to reapply once in the middle of an all-day hike. I will never EVER leave on vacation or for a hike without this stuff again.

This stuff makes life better, I just need to find it in bigger tubes because its kind of expensive in the smaller tubes.
