Comments about Mountainsmith Recycled Tour Lumbar Pack:

Because of a Chronically Painful shoulder, I can't use a standard back pack, so this is the perfect substitute. I love to hike and can take my standard 40 oz of water in the two bottles I bought to go with this pack. It usually holds Jerky, spare batteries for my camera, medication, sunblock, my cell phone (Inside sealed plastic), keys, money and there is room for me to stuff inside a pullover sweat shirt or flip flops (for beach hiking at Pt Reyes or between SF and Pacifica)! Or, I can tie down a jacket or a pull over sweat shirt on the outside. I hook my Ipod to one of the straps and I'm good to go! For long hikes (20 some odd miles with little water), I tie my jacket to the outside and stuff a full Platypus 2+ inside, in addition to the 2 bottles on my right and left side. It's durable and I've taken a few falls and slid on my back and it's still in great shape! There's also additional straps and capacity, that I never have used!!!!

Comments about Mountainsmith Recycled Tour Lumbar Pack:

After trying on many lumbar bags, the minute I cinched this one up it was love! The extra lumbar padding is unequaled. The cinching straps are excellent for perfect balance. I use it for extreme hikes and otherwise it waits by my door as my go-bag in case of survival conditions. I have fire supplies, shelter, food, fishing supplies, everything in this!! You will not be disappointed how you can pack this comfortable pack to the limit!

Comments about Mountainsmith Recycled Tour Lumbar Pack:

This is a big, comfortable pack, easily fits a jacket, lunch, water, camera, book, first aid/survival stuff and a few other small things. The waist belt is great and the adjustment straps are quite functional. I use it for everything from quick one hour trips to all day hikes, and I may even try to do an ultra-light overnighter with it this summer. Great, simple, functional design with one large exterior pocket and a medium internal pocket. The dual handles and shoulder strap make it a decent fill in for a brief case, carry-on bag, or 'murse.'
The only drawback - when filled, it is a bit heavy on the hips and waist by the end of the day. Shoulder straps would likely solve this and make it the perfect bag - but neither REI not Mountainsmith has them currently available! Please make some more straps and sell them to me!
Also - this isn't a complaint, just a warning - make sure you need a pack this big, it's not a typical waist pack, consider the smaller sizes if you're a light packer.

Comments about Mountainsmith Recycled Tour Lumbar Pack:

I bought this for a car camping trip and being a little bit high-maintenance, loved how much I could carry with me. Fully loaded, this pack sags but I've since bought the Strapettes and that solved the problem. The cinching straps on the bottom are perfect for holding a sweater or jacket and the side pockets fit my large water bottles and a camera in its case. Even fully loaded and wearing the added shoulder straps, this pack is comfy! The major selling point for me at first was that it was made from recycled materials but I've since fallen in love with its functionality. This is the best pack I've ever owned.

Comments about Mountainsmith Recycled Tour Lumbar Pack:

I absolutely love this bag. It is nearly indestructible! I have used and abused it since 2000 and it goes everywhere with me. I travel all over the world and use it as my camera/anything I might need for the next 24 hours bag. I like to use it as a weekend bag when I want to travel light (lucky I'm only 5'3"). Sure now that I bought that giant 70-200 2.8f Canon Lens, it is getting a bit crowded and fitting my 13" laptop or a few Frisbees has its challenges, but really this bag has a special place in my heart. Constructed well, double lining, water resistant still, extra thick zippers that can take a beating, and really handy organization, love the water side pouches for bottles or anything you want handy. I actually sling it across my back like a messenger bag most often. Great attention to detail. A high quality product.

Comments about Mountainsmith Recycled Tour Lumbar Pack:

I bought this bag for my trip to Hong Kong. This bad is perfect for walking around the city. I was able to carry my camera, water, rain jacket, souvenirs no problem while never getting uncomfortable.

We went for a day hike and was able to strap on my waste for the first time and wondered why I waited so long to get a lumbar bag for day hikes. Just a great bag and now use it all the time.

Comments about Mountainsmith Recycled Tour Lumbar Pack:

I bought one of these recently to take on camping trips with my wife to use for day hikes. We really enjoyed using it. It has tons of space. Inside I carried food, a stove, and layers that we took off. Outside had plenty of room for two water bottles. The reason I gave four stars was that the bag kind of sagged with all of the weight on it, but I think I'll buy the shoulder straps and that should correct that problem. Overall Great Bag!!!

Comments about Mountainsmith Recycled Tour Lumbar Pack:

I have used this product on demanding 20 mile day hikes where I needed jacket, camera, filter-bottle,small first aid kit, energy bars, compass, map, GPS, minitripod, small ground sheet.
All fit nicely in the pack.

The waist belt is very comfortable and stable. Though if jogging, one is inclined to support with a hand at times. The pack is plenty stable and comfortable enough for all day hiking. I have never used the shoulder strap that was included. The nice advantage over a back pack is that it is somewhat cooler. Access is also quite easy on the move by simply loosening and spinning it around to front.
I love pocket layout where you can store small items and keys in a small internal flap pocket while you can store energy bars and small items in a small external pocket. The main pocket is quite roomy and will cinch nicely when not fully loaded. One mesh bottle pocket on each side will easily hold 1 qt nalgenes if you are inclined to carry. External bungie on front and two straps on bottom come in handy for accessories.
I would say that this is probably the best value in a specialized lumbar pack. Very well made.
